Herman H. Wittig, of Newtown, died on August 9, 2015 of Newtown He was the beloved husband of the late Doris DuBois Wittig, father of the late Brian Wittig (Eileen Wittig), brother of the late John Wittig. Dearest father of Cathy Wittig (Larry Waldman), Thomas Wittig (Geralyn), Karen Wittig (Donna MacLeod), Jeanne Vanrell (Jason). He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Charles W. McElroy, Jr.

August 8th, 2015

Charles W. McElroy, Jr. of Chalfont died suddenly at his residence on Saturday, August 8, 2015. He was 77.

Charles was the beloved husband of 53 years to Sandy Lofgren McElroy.

Born in Chico, CA, he was the son of the late Charles and Lucile Dloughy McElroy.

Charles graduated from San Diego State University with a Masters degree in Public Administration and shortly after started a career with the State of California. His career took him and his family to Korea in 1976. In 1986, Charles worked and resided in Egypt, Israel, and Jordan for 18 years. After his retirement in 2004, he used his skills and talents to help people through times of disaster with the American Red Cross. During his leisure, he enjoyed golfing and spending time with his family and friends.

In addition to his wife Sandy, Charles is survived by his loving daughters: Michelle Collins, Melissa McGrath and her husband Tom, and Sarah “Sookie” McElroy. He is also survived by his sister Jari Heyen (Fred), his 5 grandchildren: Sophia and Abby Collins and Hannah, Maggie and Grace McGrath and his mother-in-law Margaret Nash.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend his Memorial Service 1:00PM on Friday, August 14, 2015 in Doylestown Presbyterian Church, 127 East Court St. Doylestown, PA 18901. Interment will be private.

Julia A. Frazier

August 6th, 2015

Julia A. Frazier of Churchville, PA passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 4, 2015, at her residence. She was 53.

Julie was the beloved wife of Lynn S. Anderson for 8 years.

Born in Upper Darby, PA, she was the daughter of Sarah N. Haigh Frazier and the late Robert P. Frazier.

Julie was a resident of Churchville for the past 7 years. Prior to living in Churchville, she resided in Hatboro for 1 year and in Newport, Delaware for many years. She was employed as a mortgage banker for EMM Mortgage Company in Cherry Hill, NJ and Allied Mortgage in Bala Cynwyd, PA. With all of her knowledge and experience in business, she was known to her family and friends as “the queen of mortgages”. In her leisure time, she enjoyed movies, camping, fishing, reading, speeding and the Philadelphia Folk Festival.

She will be sadly missed as a loving wife, daughter, sister, aunt and friend to many.

In addition to her beloved wife and mother, she is survived by her three step-children, Tammy Ford, Julie Marie Marder, Kristina Rewis, her brother, Robert Frazier and his wife, Joanne, her niece, Grace Frazier and her nephew, Bob Frazier of Newtown Square, PA, her aunt, Nancy Brewer and her husband, Richard, of Phoenixville, PA.

Sarah Jane Mazzarella (Kinkaid )

August 5th, 2015

Sarah Jane Kinkaid Mazzarella of Lansdale, PA and formerly of Feasterville, PA died peacefully on Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at Dock Woods Healthcare. She was 85.

Sarah Jane was the beloved wife of the late Domenick J. Mazzarella. Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late George F. and Sarah Jane Darragh Kinkaid and the sister of the late George and Henry Kinkaid.

Sarah Jane was a proud alumnus of Little Flower High School Class of 1949. She started working for Philco-Ford Company for a few years before starting a career with Eastern State School and Hospital and later with Proctor and Gamble. Sarah Jane enjoyed trips to the casinos in Atlantic City and also spending time with her family and her many nieces and nephews. Sarah Jane will be greatly missed by everyone who has come to know and love her.

Sarah Jane is survived by her sisters Thelma Schmidt and Aileen Doughty, and numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces, and grand nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Viewing on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 from 10:00am until her Funeral Mass at 11:00AM in St. Bede the Venerable Church, 1071 Holland Rd. Holland, PA 18966. Interment will follow in Our Lady of Grace Cemetery in Langhorne.

Barbara Ann Shaw (McNeill)

August 4th, 2015

Barbara Ann Shaw passed quietly in her sleep on August 4, 2015 at Abington Hospice in Warminster surrounded by her family. She was 75.

Barbara was the beloved wife of the late Alexander Shaw.

Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late James and Sarah Galaghanti McNeill and the mother of the late Glenn James Shaw.

Barbara was an avid collector of antiques as well as a world traveler. With her friends in tow some of her favorite places were Paris in the Spring, on Safari in Africa, Italy with volcanoes and the ruins of villas from another time. In her opinion, the North Wildwood Beaches were the best in the world. When she was at home, she thoroughly enjoyed her flower gardens and cooking.

Barbara is survived by her children, Scott Shaw, Glenn Shaw’s wife Eileen, Doug Shaw, Heather Tomlinson and Bonnie Haeberle. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Alex Shaw, Ian Shaw, Scott Shaw, Amanda Haeberle and Christina, Richard, Nathan, Samantha and Sarah Tomlinson and her great grandchildren Zoey Mayers and Sophia Tomlinson.

Private services will be held by her family.

Susan Smith (Snekenberg)

Susan Smith of Churchville, PA died peacefully on Monday, August 3, 2015, at her residence surrounded by her family. She was 57.

She was the beloved wife of William C.A. Smith for 25 years.

Born in Oceanside, NY, she was the daughter of Marion Pettit Snekenberg and the late William Snekenberg.

Susan was a resident of Churchville since 2001 and formerly lived in Baldwin, NY. She graduated from Hicksville High School in Long Island, Class of 1976. She was a very active member of Friends of Bill W. and sponsored several ladies through her membership. Susan was a spiritual person who’s faith and love of God gave her the strength to live one day at a time. In her leisure time, she enjoyed cooking , working with stained glass, and doing crafts. She will be dearly missed as a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her two sons, Christopher J. Smith and his finace’, Heather Dooley, of Levittown, PA and William D. Smith of Churchville. She is also survived by her mother, Marion Pettit Snekenberg of Paoli, PA and her two sisters, Lynne Barr and her husband, Brian, of Malvern, PA and Donna Hajny of Hicksville, NY.

Salvatore J. Alessi

July 31st, 2015

Salvatore J. Alessi of Audubon and formerly a long time Chalfont and Hilltown resident, passed away on Friday July 31, 2015 at Einstein Medical Center Montgomery. He was 88.

Born in Philadelphia, Salvatore was the son of the late Francisco and Margaret Alessi, and the beloved husband of the late Catherine L. Pallone Alessi and father of the late Margaret E. Alessi.

Salvatore attended South Philadelphia High School for 3 years before enlisting in the United States Army, proudly serving in the 25th Quartermaster Company, as a Supply Clerk, during WW II in the Pacific Theater, receiving several awards for his service. After his Honorable discharge from the Army he worked as a Medical Technician, he reenlisted into the U S Marine Corps in 1950 and served in both active and reserve duty.

Salvatore’s professional career spanned over 35 years working for Smith Kline Pharmaceuticals, as a Medical Laboratory Technician. He was a former communicant of Mary Mother of the Redeemer Church, North Wales and Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church, Hilltown. He loved working in his garden, taking pride in his fig trees, going deep sea fishing with family and friends and reading. Family came first and foremost; his children and grandchildren brought a sparkle to his eye. He will be sadly missed by his loving and supportive family.

Surviving are his daughters, Frances C. Baker and her husband, Joe, and Kathleen C. DiMartino and her husband, Ray; four dear grandchildren, Lauren Pappas (Clement), Katie Marttila (Zach), Raymond DiMartino, Jr., and Michael DiMartino; and his sister, Angelina DeStefano.

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Wednesday August 5, 2015 from 9:30 AM until his Funeral Mass 10:30 AM at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church, 100 Broad St., Hilltown, PA 18927. His interment will follow in St. John Neumann Cemetery, Chalfont.

William F. Mahoney

William F. Mahoney of Holland died peacefully on Friday July 31, 2015 at Twining Village, Holland. He was 93.

William was the beloved husband of Mary Eleanor (Quinn) Mahoney. The two were married for 69 years.

Born in Philadelphia he was the son of the late James J. and Cecila Rupertus Mahoney.

William was a resident of Newtown for 35 years before moving to Twining Village nearly two years ago. Along with his wife, he was an active Parishioner of St. Andrew Catholic Church in Newtown.

A 1941 graduate of Northeast Catholic High School for Boys, William went on to work for PTC before joining the Army in 1943. He served proudly with the US Army Signal Corp as a Radio Operator until 1946. Upon his return from the military he continued his work with PTC and earned his degree from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, all while working full time to support his family.

He later served as Accounting Manager for Kingsbury, Inc. in Philadelphia from 1968 until his retirement in 1985.

William was an avid reader who loved to follow the stock market, the weather, and converse about current events. He was also a long-time and faithful fan of the Philadelphia Phillies and Philadelphia Eagles.

Above all else, however, William will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be dearly missed.

William’s family wishes to thank the aides from BrightStar Home Care, the staff from Compassionate Care Hospice, and the nursing staff of Twining Village for the compassionate care shown to William and his family during his illness.

In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by his children, William J. Mahoney and his wife, Regina, of Bensalem, John J. Mahoney and his wife, Kathryn, of Bensalem, Suzanne M. Monaghan and her husband, Nicholas, of Warrington, and Patricia A. King and her husband, Bradley of Wrightstown, PA. He also leaves behind nine beloved grandchildren, Lisa, Joseph, Timothy, Gregory, James, Patrick, Carol, Andrew, and Kelsey; and four great-grandchildren, Julianna, Sophia, Gregory, Tristan.

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Monday August 10, 2015 from 10:15 – 11:15 AM at the Church of St. Andrew, 81Swamp Road, Newtown, PA 18940 where his Funeral Mass will begin at 11:30 AM. Interment will follow in Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown.

Loretta P. Hettrick (Palner)

July 31st, 2015

Loretta P. Hettrick of Doylestown passed away with her family by her side on Friday July 31, 2015 at Abington Hospice at Warminster. She was 82.

She was the beloved wife of the late Gerald P. Hettrick with whom she shared 48 years of marriage.

Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Marde and Veronica Mach Palner and sister of Robert Palner.

Loretta graduated from Frankford High School and earned her Bachelor’s degree from West Chester University. She was a teacher in the Pennridge School District retiring in 1993 after 25 years of service.

Loretta spent treasured time with family and friends in Sunset Beach, NC. An amazing cook, her kitchen was a special place where she shared her culinary delights.

Sharp of mind, she was an avid reader and an expert in current events. Soft of cheek, she placed everyone before herself, always giving with an endearing smile and gentle touch.

Above all else, Loretta’s family was the centerpiece and highlight of her life and she will be dearly missed as a loving mother, adoring “GMom” and soon-to-be great-grandmother.

Loretta is survived by her children, Sharon Hettrick-Histand and her husband, Jeffrey, of Chalfont, Gary Hettrick and his wife, Lisa, of San Diego, CA, and David Hettrick of Doylestown. She was also “GMom” to her adoring grandchildren, Matthew Histand (Meghan), Alyson Mueller (Hans), Andrew Histand (Paige), Blaire Cunningham (David), Stephen Histand, Grant, Larsen and Conrad Hettrick. Loretta was also anticipating the arrival of her first great-grandchild, due in September.

A celebration of Loretta’s life will he held privately at the convenience of the family.
