Condolences for
Patricia J. Elliott

I met Pat when I arrived at my first teaching assignment at Overlook School. She was there to greet me and show me around the school. She was due for her own assignment to Huntington Junior High, but was there to welcome me. And so began a long friendship and professional relationship

Miss Elliott was an administrator who never forgot that she was first a teacher. Pat was a friend who never allowed personal differences to weaken the bonds of friendship. As an educator, she was a mentor and leader who was tuned in to the needs of students and the art of the possible. She recognized the special contributions an individual could make to the development of the students, impacting the future. Public education was better for the contributions Miss Elliott made.

Pat was the principal at Rydal when I was a teaher at neighboring Cedar Road. I worked with her one summer when I was teacching summer school. She came to my defense when my own principal did not. I have never forgotten that and it happened over 40 years ago!! She was a person of principle. I also admired the way she handled pushy parents at Rydal!!

Our family has such lovely memories of Pat. One that especially stands out is
picking strawberries at Barlett's Farm with Pat, Kay and our then four year old Lindsay. Lindsay seemed to be able to eat the berries as fast as we could pick them. Pat just laughed and laughed, it didn't bother her in the slightest. Pat was a lovely lady with an infectious smile, always truly interested in every part of her friends lives. We will miss her dearly.

I think of all the lovely hours spent together on the beach with Pat and Kay. They nurtured, and tolerated, my four children and gave them special nicknames. Pat had such a kind and loving heart that was felt when she looked at you. She imparted much wisdom in our hours together. Kay, I will continue to think of you both when I step on the sand and feel your warmth and love. You will both be in my prayers.
