Condolences for
William P. Mauro

Monday, January 21st | Comment by: Frederick (Rick) Haynes

I was so very saddened to see Coach Mauro's obituary in my inbox over the weekend. When I was a 10th grader and a new student at Council Rock H.S., Coach Mauro made me feel special. I really loved basketball, but my love for the sport exceeded my skills for the game. As a member of the 10th grade and JV teams he allowed me to "travel" with the Varsity as sort of a team manager. I remember him taking us to the famed Palestra in Philly to watch a couple of Big 5 games; a very new experience for me. I was disappointed when Coach Mauro left the head coaching job at CR to go coach at Montgomery County Community College at the start of my junior year. But we were lucky to have him remain at CR as an educator.

Coach Mauro was dedicated to serving our youth. He was calm and gentle, but intense in a quiet way; and he was very basketball savvy. He pushed his players hard to make them better players, but more importantly, better people. I know Coach that you will surely be missed, and I will never forget the kindness you extended to me as an adolescent 15 year old. RIP Coach Mauro. Rick Haynes, CR Class of 1975.

The Mauro family,
My sincerest sympathy on your loss. Bill was a great competitor, wonderful teammate, and a credit to the University of Pittsburgh.

I was privileged to be coached by Mr. Mauro during his early years at CR. He was a true competitor with solid values. He "made it matter". My condolences to his family.

Dear Nancy,
It's been many years since we've seen you and Bill. Questers brought us together in the '80s, and we left PA for Dallas in 1993 when Bob was transferred. We remember our get-togethers outside of Questers. Bill was always a great host and lots of fun to be with. All of his accolades were remarkable and indicative of someone who was dedicated to serving others.

Our heart goes out to you and your family over your loss. We're sure you are surrounded by your children and grandchildren's love and support. You are in our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.

Love,
Gail & Bob
