I served with Howard in 1960 at the 48th Surg Hosp (MA). As a brand new medic Howard was not only my Commanding Officer he was my friend and mentor. we took our R&R's together, one to HongKong and the other to Japan. so very sorry to hear of his passing.

In 1960-61 in our BOQ in Korea, Howard indicated his plan to become a famous mid-eastern physician. He appears to have done even better for his lower buck's county patients. God bless the man, popular among physician peers in 1960-61.

Howard, I'm going to miss you, my friend. Over the last many years we shared many breakfasts and lots of good conversations about travel, Rotary, politics and life as it is lived. Thanks for the stories and the friendship. Our trip to Sri Lanka to launch aid projects with Rotarians in Colombo and Kandy will remain a fond memory for me. You became a rock star there and made so many friends among those we met. You did more good in this world than just about anyone by being a physician, a traveler with a mission, and a close colleague to many of us. Irene, we share your loss but take solace in having known Howard and been touched by the life he lead.
Sincerely,
Bob Eichfeld
