Madelyn Helmstetter Armstrong
Devoted Wife, Mother, Grandmother and GIGI

Madelyn Helmstetter Armstrong, 89 years old, entered into eternal rest on November 13, 2012, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Newark, New Jersey on January 1, 1923, the daughter of the late Charles and Ida (Niedermeier) Helmstetter. Madelyn was a graduate of Central High School, Newark, NJ.

Madelyn and her husband Robert purchased their first home in 1951 in Union, New Jersey and resided there for 25 years before moving to Whippany, New Jersey in 1976. While residing in Union, she was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Maplewood, NJ. She then joined Our Lady of Mercy Church when she moved to Whippany. Madelyn was a homemaker all of her life and loved to cook, sew, knit and bake. She was a volunteer at Morristown Memorial Hospital for 20 years during which time she knitted hundreds of newborn baby hats for the maternity ward. In 2002, Robert and Madelyn moved to Flemington, NJ to be close to their daughter Linda Burger and her family. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Three Bridges, NJ.
She was predeceased by her loving and devoted husband, Robert, who died on February 19, 2012. She was also predeceased by her sisters Henrietta Graubner, Rose Ens and Mildred Morgan. She is survived by her sibling, Sr. Aloysia of the Benedictine Order.

Surviving are her twin daughters, Barbara Fuko and son-in-law Curtis Fuko of Pittsboro, NC, and Linda Burger and son-in-law Edward Burger of Flemington, New Jersey. She was a devoted Grandmother to Tracy Burger (Pete Delgado), Lisa (Anthony) DeFazio, Julie (Kirk) Eisenbeil, Sarah (Ryan) Garbolino, Kristin (Tony) Pisch, Curtis Fuko and Michael (Eric Rizzo) Fuko. She was so proud to be the Great Grandmother (GIGI) of Luke, Hailey and Samuel DeFazio; Caleb, Camryn, Cassidy and Colby Eisenbeil; Ella Grace Garbolino; Ryan and Lindsay Pisch; Andrew Bucknam and Jessica, Kaitlyn and Justin Fuko. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Madelyn will be sadly missed by her family and friends but she is now reunited with her best friend and devoted husband, Robert, and we are all smiling knowing that they are together again, celebrating their 67th wedding anniversary in heaven together. We love you and miss you, Mom and Dad!

Services and interment were held at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Lakeview Assisted Living, 2425 Lower State Road, Doylestown, PA. This is where both Robert and Madelyn lived for the last 3 years and we are eternally grateful for the love and care that all of the staff there provided for our parents.
