John J. McBride, Jr. of Hatboro, formerly of Buckingham Springs, died peacefully on Friday December 28, 2012 at Doylestown Hospital, Doylestown. He was 95.
Born in Rydal, John was the beloved husband of Grayce Seitter McBride for the past 10 years. He was the son of the late John J. Sr. and Leona Mathis McBride, and husband of 62 years to late Florence Gilbert McBride who died in October 2000.
John was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during World War II. After the war, John and his brother, Paul McBride, where co owners of a machine shop, which was located in the Somerton section of Feasterville. In the late 1940’s McBride Motors was established, operating in Feasterville until 1964 when the dealership moved to Sycamore St. in Newtown. When John retired in 1983, his son, Robert, continued the dealership until the mid-1990’s.
John was self-taught and inquisitive. He loved to read and could often be found with an encyclopedia not far from his side. An avid boater and Coast Guard Auxiliary member, John looked forward to fishing with his buddies, as well as teaching classes in boater safety. Living in Ocean City and Barnegat gave him many opportunities to do what he loved.
A man of deep faith, he was an active member of the Church of the Advent in Hatboro for many years. He will be deeply remembered for his quick wit, firm handshake and being a man of his word.
In addition to his wife Grayce, he is survived by his daughter Diane L. McBride of Hatboro and his son Robert J. McBride and his wife Joyce of New Hope, 3 grandchildren, William, Jason and Sara, 2 great grandchildren Ryan and Brianna. Also surviving are Grayce’s children; Glenn Haist and his wife Betty, and Eric “Gregg” Haist and his wife Diane and 4 grandchildren; Lisa, Brad, Sarah and Emily and a great granddaughter Kailey Grayce.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Memorial Service on Saturday, January 12, 2013. Bob’s family will receive condolences from10:00am until the service at 11:00am at the Church of the Advent 12 Byberry Rd., Hatboro, PA 19040.
Interment will follow in the Church Memorial Garden.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Church of the Advent at the above address.
