Monica Kathleen Willis, 88, of Doylestown, Pennsylvania died peacefully in her home and surrounded by family on Thursday, December 20, 2018.

Born in 1930 in Dublin, Ireland, Monica was the daughter of the late Christopher and Anne Murphy Flanagan. She was the youngest of five siblings; the late Agnes Wynne, Harold Flanagan, Anne O’ Sullivan, and Ronald Flanagan.

Monica immigrated to the United States from Ireland in 1957 and became a naturalized citizen in 1967. In 1960 she married Alan Willis and was his beloved wife for 49 years until his death in 2009.

Although Monica stood at just barely 4 ‘11” on a good day, her heart, charm, and wit carried her and everyone around her above life’s many challenges. It was also a well-known fact that her Irish accent, which she never lost, allowed her to get away with more than most; often with a wink she would say, “Just let me do the talking.”

Monica was a resident of Furlong for 33 years before moving to Doylestown in 2006. She worked at Bucks County Community College from 1973 until her retirement in 1997. It was here that she received her Associates Degree in Liberal Arts in 1985. Throughout this entire time she was also faithful parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.

In her leisure time, Monica enjoyed traveling, a good cup of tea, reading, opera, theatre, Downton Abby, Continuing Education courses and socializing with her “Yentas”. She was also a volunteer in Doylestown Hospital’s Pastoral Care for over 15 years.

She will be deeply missed by her family and by all who came to know her. Her family is forever grateful to Margaret Kennedy for being Monica’s friend, companion, and caretaker during her final years of life.

Monica is survived by her daughters, Hazel Willis Walker and her husband Stuart of the United Kingdom and Sharon Kaucher and her husband Alan of the Lehigh Valley. Monica was also a devoted grandmother to Faye Bell and her husband David Bell of Atlanta, Georgia and Evan Kaucher of Philadelphia. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews from around the world.

Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing on Friday, December 28, 2018 from 10:00 AM until her Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 235 E. State St., Doylestown, PA 18901.  Her Burial services will follow at the Doylestown Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Sixth Street Shelter, 219 N. 6th Street, Allentown, PA 18102.
