Charles J. “Skip” Hannes, Jr., of Furlong, passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2018, at his home surrounded by his family after a battle with pulmonary fibrosis and asbestosis. He was 77.

He was the beloved husband of Norma Bourgeault Hannes for 53 years. Born in Washington, D C, he was the son of the late Charles J. “Chick” Hannes, Sr. and Margaret “Peg” Haines Hannes. The brother of the late Margaret H. “Peggy” Leven and her husband the late John “Jack” Leven, Sr.

He was the father of C. Sean Hannes and his fiancée Tammy Stong and daughter Tarah Elizabeth Hannes. He was an Uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. He also loved his grand dogs, Chloe, Tupper, Callie and Butter.

Skip was a 1958 graduate of Hatboro-Horsham High School. After retiring from motorcycle racing due to a badly broken leg, he got married and moved to Furlong in 1965.

Skip was a self made man, his technical skills as a German car mechanic surpassed many, having worked for Holbert’s VW, Porsche and Audi. In 1973 he opened his own shop “American Sales and Service/ The German Connection in Rushland, which in 1982 moved to Forest Grove. All the while he assisted with the Holbert’s Race Team.  This allowed Skip to travel the country with his family to the many races.

For the past 20 years Skip has been an Owner-Operator of his own Tractor Trailer hauling chemicals across the country. This he really missed once he got too sick to drive.

He was very knowledgeable and interested in anything about World War II and was an Eagles fan for many years.

Best of all he will always be remembered and sadly missed for his quick wit, sense of humor second to none and his friendly personality by all.

Skip’s family would like to thank all the Doctors, Nurses and Caregivers that have helped him and his family through this trying time.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Memorial  gathering on Saturday January 20, 2018 from 2:00pm  until his Memorial Service 4:00pm at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home 800 Newtown-Richboro Rd.(at Holland Rd.) Richboro.
