Grace M. Hartranft passed away Sunday April 13, 2014 at Wesleyan Enhanced Living, Doylestown. She was 91.
She was the beloved wife of the late Donald Z. Hartranft, her soulmate, with whom she shared 67 years of marriage and a lifetime of happiness.
Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Henry M. Hibbs and Blanche Dolby Hibbs Sabel.
Grace had been a resident of Doylestown for two years and formerly was a long time resident of York, PA for 58 years.
Grace was a graduate of Overbrook High School and following graduation she attended the former Presbyterian Hospital Nursing School where she earned her R.N. degree in nursing. After raising her four children she dedicated her life to helping others, both professionally and through extensive volunteer work with non-profit organizations including the American Cancer Society, Planned Parenthood, and FISH, a York, PA organization providing transportation for the disabled and shut-ins. She was also dedicated to her work in teaching reading to adults who had never learned.
After her husband’s retirement, Grace and Don moved to a working farm in York, PA where they spent many happy years making cherished memories with their grandchildren and family, who will treasure them forever.
In addition, Grace was an avid reader, enjoyed travelling, and playing the piano and Bridge. Grace’s loving spirit, acceptance of others and practical nature were among her most endearing qualities. Her love to all around her, most especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, will live on in the hearts of many.
Grace is survived by her children, John F. Hartranft and his wife, Margaret, of Derwood, MD, Donald J. Hartranft and his wife, Margaret, of Richboro, Thomas P. Hartranft and his wife, Susan, of Clearwater, Fla., and Joanne M. Dellefield and her husband, James, of Cincinnati, OH; her brother, Paul Hibbs of Ewing, NJ; her eight adoring grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing on Wednesday April 16th, from 11 AM until her funeral service 12 PM at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 241 E. Butler Ave. (at Sandy Ridge Rd.), New Britain, PA 18901. The interment will be held privately.
