Mary T. McMonagle, a 43 year resident of Holland died suddenly on Saturday, October 29, 2016, while attending a retreat at the Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa in Doylestown. She was 75.
Born in Philadelphia, Mary was the beloved wife of 53 years to James M. McMonagle, daughter of the late William T. and Dorothy (Tapp) Miltz.
Mary was a member of the class of 1959 from St. Basil Academy, and completed a nursing degree from Fitzgerald Mercy Hospital in 1962. As an active nurse, she cared for the sick and elderly in Frankford Hospital and St. John Neumann Nursing Home.
Mary was a faithful communicant of St. Bede the Venerable Parish since 1973. She shared her love of music, playing the piano at family and social events, and singing with the St. Bede Choir. Her musical prowess was a family passion, following her parents’ lifelong devotion to choir at St. Matthew’s parish, through to her grandchildren in several church and high school choirs. Mary shared her faith and talents in many ways through the Faith Enrichment group, and Prayer Groups, and leading Pre-Cana marriage preparation in St. Bede Parish. For the past 5 years, Mary and Jim have loved running wedding rehearsals for soon-to-be-married couples.
Though never formally trained in the arts, Mary had natural artistic talents, from original oil paintings to creating crafts for family and friends. She looked forward to sharing her talents at family gatherings with her children and 9 grandchildren. She will be deeply missed for her gentle manner, sly sense of humor and welcoming smile.
In addition to her loving husband Jim, she is survived by her devoted children and their spouses, Theresa M. Beach and her husband Matthew, Regina M. Lopardo and her husband James, James M. McMonagle Jr. and his wife Denise, her sister Eileen Kane and her husband Joseph. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren: Matt, Tori, Alec, Stephanie, Elizabeth, Evan, Jimmy, Laura and Jenny. She is the dear sister-in-law of Joseph P. McMonagle (Helen), Nancy Iorio (Samuel) and Mary Rita Gallagher (William).
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewings Thursday evening November 3, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm and Friday from 9:15 am to 10:15 am at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home 800 Newtown-Richboro Rd. (at Holland Rd.) Richboro and to her Funeral Mass 11:00am at St Bede the Venerable Church 1071 Holland Rd. Holland. Interment will follow in Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown.
Contributions in Mary’s memory may be made to St. Katharine Drexel Regional Catholic School, 1071 Holland Rd. Holland, PA 18966.
