Elizabeth Benes, of New Seasons Assisted Living, Chalfont, PA died on Tuesday, December 14, 2010, at her home. She was 90.
She was the beloved wife of 68 years to Gerald J. Benes, who died on December 2, 2010.
Elizabeth grew up in Brooklyn and on October 6, 1942 married her beloved husband Gerald before he entered the US Army on November 30 of that year. Like many women, she faithfully awaited the return of her husband and upon his return raised a family which was the center of her life.
After her husband’s retirement in 1976 from the fire department, they relocated to Clearwater, FL where they enjoyed many warm winters. Then in 2003 they returned to the Northeast, this time settling in Bucks County, so that they could be closer to their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved her family and selflessly dedicated herself to them. As a wife and mother none were better, however, her true gift was being a grandmother and great-grandmother, and the love she shared with them will always be treasured.
She is survived by her sons Gerald B. Benes, Barry B. Benes and his wife Rosemary, and Kevin J. Benes and his wife Lynn, and her sister Carolyn Knowles. She is also survived by her 7 grandchildren Gregory and wife Joyce, Christopher and wife Angela, Kevin and wife Christine, Matthew, Shannon and husband Richard Postiglione, Lauren and husband Steven Cohen and Ryan and 3 great grandchildren Brian, Kimberley and Stefan.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing, Thursday, December 16, 2010 from 2:00 — 4:00 pm and from 6:00 until her Funeral Service 8:00 PM at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 241 East Butler Ave., (and Sandy Ridge Rd) new Britain, PA. Her Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 AM, on Friday, December 17, 2010 at the Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Road, Newtown, PA 18940.
In lieu of flowers contributions in her memory may be made to Alzheimer's Association, Delaware Valley Chapter, 399 Market Street, Suite 102, Philadelphia, PA 19106.
