Cornell F. Gill, 95, of Richboro, PA went home to be with his Lord peacefully on Thursday, March 24, 2011 at Twining Village, Holland, PA with his family by his side.
Born in Richboro, he had been a life long resident of the same community of Northampton Township growing up in a well known farming family.
Early in his career as a heavy equipment operator, Mr. Gill was active in the construction of the well known Churchville Reservoir. He then went to work in the same capacity for James D. Morrissey, Inc. for approximately 35 years until his retirement in 1977.
Cornell was a dedicated, active member of the Addisville Reformed Church for 80 years, serving several terms on the Church Consistory as a Deacon and many years as an usher. For 25 years he and his wife visited the sick and homebound in their church congregation and delivered devotion books.
He was a proud veteran of World War II serving in the Army Corps of Engineers and a 65 year member of the Local 542 Operating Engineers Union. Mr. Gill was a member of the Plumsteadville Protective Company and a life member of the Violet Tennis Club.
Cornell was a wonderful, proud yet humble man who had been devoted to his wife and very proud of his daughter and granddaughters. After retirement for the next 20 years he and his wife enjoyed traveling to Florida during the winter months in their Airstream trailer where they formed many lasting friendships and cherished memories. He enjoyed gardening, working on his cars and NASCAR racing.
Son of the late Henry R. and Gertrude W. Gill, he was also preceded by his brothers Ralph and Raymond Gill and his devoted wife Erma Gehres Gill to whom he had been married for 65 years.
Cornell will be greatly missed by his devoted daughter and son-in-law Cheryl G. and Larry R. Adams and two loving granddaughters Dana A. McGrath and Robyn D. Adams. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewings on Tuesday evening March 29, from 7:00pm to 9:00pm and on Wednesday, from 10:00am until his Funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home 800 Newtown-Richboro Rd. (at Holland Rd.) Richboro. Interment will take place in Union Cemetery, Richboro.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Addisville Reformed Church Memorial Fund, 945 Second Street Pike, Richboro, PA 18954 or the American Cancer Society, 1626 Locust Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103.
