March 28th, 2011
Marie L. Dolge, of Doylestown, died peacefully on Monday, March 28, 2011, at Greenleaf Nursing Home, Doylestown. She was 75.
Born in Philadelphia she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Catherine Gallagher Dompert, and sister of the late Florence Valvo and William Dompert.
Marie was a graduate of Frankford High School, class of 1953. She was a woman of many talents; she enjoyed painting with water colors, watching classic movies and was a wiz at board games. Her family was first and foremost in her life and she especially enjoyed following the pursuits of her grandchildren.
Marie was a long-time resident of Warrington before moving to Doylestown in 2007.
She is survived by her devoted children; Michael F. Dolge and his wife Sharon, Jaime Thomas and her husband Daniel and David S. Dolge her one sister Elmira Pasquini, and her 6 grandchildren: Michelle Dolge Hartman, Ryan Thomas, Alexandra Dolge, Chelsea Dolge, Erik Thomas and Bailey Dolge.
Marie’s family will receive condolences on Friday April 1, 2011 from 9:30 AM until her Funeral Mass 10:30 AM, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church 235 E. State St. Doylestown. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Bensalem, PA.

Donald S. Pettit, Jr. of Mountain Top, PA, died on Sunday, March 27, 2011, at St. Mary Medical Center in Middletown, PA, after a more than three month struggle with post-surgical hospitalization complications. He is mourned by his family and many friends around the world and in the local area. His family and close friends were in attendance.
Donald S. Pettit, Jr. or ‘Pete’ , to many of his friends and associates, was born on May 6, 1929 at Nuangola Station in Mountain Top, PA. He was a 1943 graduate of Stivers Grade School, a one-room school house in Rice Township, and a 1947 graduate of Meyers High School in Wilkes-Barre, PA where he is remembered as an athlete, having garnered 3 letters.
Mr. Pettit had a full and varied life that included semi — professional and professional baseball, serving over 26 years in the United States Air Force through 2 wars, followed by several years as a civil servant at the Tobyhanna Army Depot until 1994 and a long-awaited retirement in his boyhood hometown, where he became known as a Master Swimmer at the Wilkes-Barre YMCA. He was a familiar friendly presence to friends and employees at the Hazleton and Laurel Malls and various businesses in the area.
His baseball career included a stint with the American Legion, managed by Mickey Haslin. He signed a contract with the Boston Braves in 1947 and tried out with the Wilkes-Barre Barons in 1948. Pete was on the St. Dominic’s, Parsons, team that won the valley championship in 1948 and tried out for the Philadelphia Phillies with Cy Morgan and Joe Gallagher in the spring of 1949. He played in the Anthracite League, notably with the Conyngham Rubes, winning the championship with them in 1950, batting 406. As catcher and pitcher, he also played minor league ball with the Brooklyn Dodgers organization in the spring of 1950, along with Roy Campanella. (Pete always said the major leagues were over for him as soon as he saw Roy). In the baseball off-season he also worked as a lumberjack, poultry man and farmhand before he joined the U.S. Air Force in 1950.
In 1976, Chief Master Sergeant Pete Pettit retired with an Honorable Discharge from the US Air Force as the most decorated Non-commissioned Officer, with 63 medals and honors. He started as an armorer on B-26 aircraft and was asked to volunteer and became a gunner on the Douglas B-26, in which capacity he served 5 tours in the Korean War, 5th Air Force. Pete served in the Strategic Air Command (SAC) during the Cuban Missile crisis, flew 7 tours on the B-52 through the Vietnam Conflict, participating in ARC Light, both flying and operations, in Operations Linebacker I and II, and overseas service in Korea, Japan, Puerto Rico, Guam and Thailand. He flew on the B-26, the B-29, the RB-29, RB-50 and the B-52.
He received the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Bronze Star Medal, the Air Medal with 1 Silver and 2 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, an Air Force Commendation Medal, a Presidential Unit Citation Medal with 2 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, an Air Force Outstanding Unit Citation (V with Silver Oak Leaf Clusters), among many others.
Pete was a member of the Mountain Top Historical Society and the YMCA. He worshipped at St Martin-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church, of which he was a member all his life. He enjoyed walking 3 miles a day, typically around his home or in the local Mall, often wearing his Green Bay Packers hat, and was known for swimming a mile a day for years at the Wilkes-Barre YMCA. He also enjoyed dining out and meeting his friends in the area restaurants.
Mr. Pettit was the son of the late Donald S. Sr. and Mary Foley Pettit, and the beloved husband of 49 years to the late Yoshiko Pettit, whom he met and married in Japan. He is survived by his devoted children and their spouses; Linda M. Pettit of Burke, VA , Donald S. Pettit III and Victoria Pettit, of Lansdale, PA, and Robin M. and Linda O. Pettit of Warminster, PA. He is also survived by four loving grandchildren, Ross, Megan, Catherine, and Brandon, and two of his brothers and their wives, Ivan E. and Sylvia Pettit, and Thomas G. and Mary-Jean Pettit. He was recently preceded in death by his brother Edward L. Pettit.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
Memorial Service:
Pete’s ashes will be laid to rest on Saturday, May 14, following a memorial service at 10:00 am at the Memorial Garden at St Martin-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church, 3085 Church Road, Mountain Top, PA, at the corner of Church Road and Nuangola Road.
Ruth June Goodison (Montgomery)

Ruth June Montgomery Goodison, of Richboro, died on Saturday, March 26, 2011, at St. Mary Medical Center, Langhorne. She was 91.
She was the beloved wife of 55 years to late Lawrence W. Goodison, who died in 1996. Born in Brooklyn NY, she was the daughter of the late Robert J. and Agnes Wilson Montgomery.
Ruth has been a resident of Richboro for the past 17 years and been under the loving care of her daughter Lauren during all of her peaks and valleys. A woman of many talents, during her high school years she participated on the swim team and was a class mate of Ester Williams. Ruth worked for Kollsman Instrument Company in New York during the war, after working there for several years, she went and got her Certified Nurse Assistant degree from Central General Hospital in Plainview, NY., Ruth loved caring for people and was good at what she did.
Ruth was very well read and she was an accomplished artist who enjoyed working with oils. She also had a flare for designing hats and had worked in the fashion industry. A devoted mother and grandmother she will be deeply missed by all who came to know and love her.
She is survived by her devoted children; Gail L. Hall and her husband Ken of Bluffton SC, Michael L. Goodison and his wife Mary of Poway CA, Lauren L. Barbieri and her husband Joseph of Richboro and Corrine L. Chase and Harry Benanti of West Bay Shore NY,. She will be deeply missed by her loving 7 grandchildren, Christina Johnson, Nicole Klein, John Goodison, Frank, Joseph, Christopher and Alyssa Barbieri and her 6 great grandchildren; Krystin, Kayla, Kyleigh, Brianna, Brian and Micah and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services and Interment will be privately held.

Russell B. Darling, Jr. of Holland went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 26, 2011.
Russell was the beloved husband of 59 years to Thelma “Jane” Hogeland Darling.
Born in Philadelphia on May 17, 1924, he was the son of the late Russell B., Sr. and Leona Fehrle Darling.
Russell was a former resident of Fox Chase before moving to Holland in 1954. He was a veteran of the US Navy, serving from 1943 until 1946. He participated in the landing at Omaha Beach on D-Day, and later served in the Pacific Theater, both in the Philippines and Japan. Upon returning from the service, he attended and graduated from Penn State University in 1950. He was a brother in the AGR Fraternity and served as Noble Ruler during his senior year.
After his graduation, he worked in the dairy industry. He owned and operated Keystone Dairy in Bristol. Russell later worked for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in the Department of Transportation as a Budget Analyst until his retirement. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Bristol and The Gideon’s International and was a Trustee of the historic Old School Baptist Church in Southampton.
After his retirement, Russell enjoyed gardening, reading, painting and having time to visit with his family and friends. He was an active member of The Church of the Good Samaritans in Holland.
Russell was preceded in death by his son, Frank A. Darling in 1993. Russell is survived by his son, Russell B. Darling, III and his wife Susan of Holland, his daughter Christine D. Maven and her husband John of Perkasie, his daughter-in-law Judith L. Becker-Darling of Georgia. He is also survived by his two grandchildren, William R. Maven and Morgan G. Maven.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Memorial Service at 11:00 am on Saturday April 2, 2011at the Church of the Good Samaritans, 964 Holland Rd. Holland, PA 18966, where the family will receive condolences and have fellowship immediately after the service.
Interment for Russell will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Church of the Good Samaritans at the above named address.

Beulah Banks Newell, “Bea” of Holland, died peacefully on Friday, March 25, 2011, at Chandler Hall Hospice with her family at her side.
She was the beloved wife of 44 years to late John F. Newell. Born in Maryland, she was the daughter of Roland and Frances Ward Banks.
“Bea” as she was known to family and friends was a graduate of Rockville High School. She also attended Business School where she studied Fashion Merchandise. Bea worked as a merchandise manager for Woodward and Lothrop in Washington, DC. Before moving to Bucks County, she worked as a realtor in Morristown, NJ.
Bea was a faithful communicant of the Church of St. Andrew in Newtown. An active woman, she loved gardening, bridge, animals and golf, but what she really enjoyed was shopping. Her beloved family came first and foremost. No one could have wished for a more devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother. Her beautiful smile and gentle way will be sadly missed by all who came to know and love her.
She is survived by her caring children and their spouses: Kathleen Newell and her husband Richard Marshall, Karen Brindley and her husband Sam, Sharon Fawcett and her husband Carl, Timothy Newell and his wife Marie and Frances L.” Cindy” Newell and her partner Kate. She is also survived by her 9 cherished grandchildren and 1 great grandson.
Bea’s family will receive condolences on Saturday April 2, 2011 from 9:45am until her Funeral Mass 11:00am at the Olde Church of St. Andrew 135 Sycamore St. Newtown. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, West Conshohocken.

Michael James Piazza of Newtown died suddenly on Friday, March 25, 2011 at St. Mary Medical Center. He was 59.
He was the beloved and devoted husband of 33 years to Eileen Gallagher Piazza.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, he was the son of the late Anthony and Anne Pepolino Piazza and brother of the late Joseph Piazza.
Michael was a former resident of Queens, New York before moving to Newtown in 1989. He was a 4th Degree Knight, and a member of the Raymond V. Hennessy, Knights of Columbus Council #6145 and faithful and active Communicant and Usher at the Church of St. Andrew in Newtown. Michael had worked as the Disaster Recovery Specialist for over three years with Active Health Management in New York, New York. In his leisure, Michael enjoyed hosting the “Oldies but Goodies Show” every Sunday from 12noon to 3:00pm for WTSR Radio for the College of New Jersey. He enjoyed sports and was an avid Mets fan. Michael will be deeply missed by his family and by everyone that truly experienced the pleasure of knowing him.
In addition to his wife Eileen, Michael is survived by their loving children, Annette M. Piazza and John M. Piazza of Newtown, his two brothers, John Piazza of Beverly Hills, FL and Stephen Piazza of Queens, NY and his sister, Eileen Piazza of Dallas, Texas. Michael is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

James F. Carroll of Washington Crossing died peacefully on Friday, March 25, 2011, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on June 28, 1928, in New Rochelle, New York, he was the son of the late James F., a New York fire chief; and Katherine Grattan Carroll. He married Mary Jane Kelsh of Bronxville, NY in 1956.
Mr. Carroll graduated from Iona College. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army where he served his country during the Korean conflict. He later was accepted to the Army’s prestigious Counter Intelligence Corps.
After completing the executive training program at General Motors Acceptance Corporation (GMAC) in New York City, Jim worked at GMAC for 40 years in financial senior management and managed several GMAC east coast financial operations.
In addition to his beloved wife of 55 years, Jim is also survived by his two daughters and his sons-in law, Mary Feely and William of Langhorne, PA, and Joanne Skahill and Michael of Williamsburg, VA. Jim considered his five grandchildren Katelin, Sean and Bridget Feely, and Madeline and Connor Skahill his crowning achievement. Jim is also survived by his sister, Barbara Ferry.

Mary J. Costello of Holland died Thursday, March 24, 2011 at St. Mary Medical Center. She was 74.
Born in Port Huron, MI, she was the daughter of the late Willis T. and Helen Bowen Snyder.
Mrs. Costello was a Nurse Anesthetist at Abington Memorial Hospital. She was a Greeter at St. Bede the Venerable Church and an active parishioner for many years. In her leisure time she enjoyed arranging flowers for her friends and family. Mary will be sorely missed as a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.
Mary is survived by her loving son and daughter-in-law Ronald J. and Nora Costello and her 2 sisters Helen J. Wyss and her husband Frank, and Betty Lou Cook. She is also survived by her beloved grand-daughter Iris Costello and numerous nieces and nephews.

Paul J. Goodman, Sr., of Warminster, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, March 24, 2011, at his residence. He was 82.
He was the beloved husband of 58 years to Rose Hardock Goodman. Born in Atlantic City NJ, he was the son of the late George L. and Mary Schoenfielder Goodman and grandfather of the late Samuel and Genevieve Goodman.
Paul was a resident of Warminster for the past 48 years. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II. Paul retired in 1994,after over 45 years, with the 7 UP Bottling Company of Philadelphia as a Tractor Trailer operator. Paul was the past President of the Bustleton Boys Club, and for many years he coached baseball and basketball. An avid sports fan he looked forward to watching his Philadelphia teams. He will be deeply missed by his family and all those whose lives he touched.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his son, Paul J. Goodman, Jr. and his wife Patricia M. of Williamstown NJ, his sister Doris Selke of Philadelphia, and his 2 dear granddaughters; Sonnet Noelle and Jessica Rose.

Cornell F. Gill, 95, of Richboro, PA went home to be with his Lord peacefully on Thursday, March 24, 2011 at Twining Village, Holland, PA with his family by his side.
Born in Richboro, he had been a life long resident of the same community of Northampton Township growing up in a well known farming family.
Early in his career as a heavy equipment operator, Mr. Gill was active in the construction of the well known Churchville Reservoir. He then went to work in the same capacity for James D. Morrissey, Inc. for approximately 35 years until his retirement in 1977.
Cornell was a dedicated, active member of the Addisville Reformed Church for 80 years, serving several terms on the Church Consistory as a Deacon and many years as an usher. For 25 years he and his wife visited the sick and homebound in their church congregation and delivered devotion books.
He was a proud veteran of World War II serving in the Army Corps of Engineers and a 65 year member of the Local 542 Operating Engineers Union. Mr. Gill was a member of the Plumsteadville Protective Company and a life member of the Violet Tennis Club.
Cornell was a wonderful, proud yet humble man who had been devoted to his wife and very proud of his daughter and granddaughters. After retirement for the next 20 years he and his wife enjoyed traveling to Florida during the winter months in their Airstream trailer where they formed many lasting friendships and cherished memories. He enjoyed gardening, working on his cars and NASCAR racing.
Son of the late Henry R. and Gertrude W. Gill, he was also preceded by his brothers Ralph and Raymond Gill and his devoted wife Erma Gehres Gill to whom he had been married for 65 years.
Cornell will be greatly missed by his devoted daughter and son-in-law Cheryl G. and Larry R. Adams and two loving granddaughters Dana A. McGrath and Robyn D. Adams. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewings on Tuesday evening March 29, from 7:00pm to 9:00pm and on Wednesday, from 10:00am until his Funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at the Joseph A.
