Ann G. Checkur of Upper Makefield Township died peacefully on Monday, March 28, 2011, at her home surrounded by her family. She was 71.

She was the beloved wife of the late George Checkur.

Born in Ashley, PA, she was the devoted daughter of the late John P. and Florence M. Cavanaugh Gallagher and sister of the late John Gallagher and the late Joseph Gallagher.

Mrs. Checkur was a resident of Upper Makefield Township for the past 10 years. She formerly lived in Colonia, NJ for 30 years prior to moving to Pennsylvania. Ann graduated from St. Leo’s School in Ashley, PA in 1957 and received her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Misericordia University in Dallas, PA, Class of 1961. For 32 years, she taught kindergarten and first grade in various elementary schools in Woodbridge Township, NJ. In her leisure time, she enjoyed cooking and baking. Family was very important to her and she especially enjoyed the times spent with her two teenage grandsons. She will be sadly missed as a loving mother, nana, sister and friend.

She is survived by her daughter and “son”, Kimberly and Edward Gibbons of Upper Makefield Township, her sister, Jeanne Oliver of Spotswood, NJ, and two loving grandsons, Casey C. Gibbons and Liam G. Gibbons.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewings on Thursday, March 31, 2011, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00 PM and on Friday, April 1, 2011, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 800 Newtown-Richboro Road (at Holland Road), Richboro, PA 18954 and to her Funeral Mass 11:00 AM at the Church of Saint Andrew, 81 Swamp Road, Newtown, PA 18940. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, 3551 N. Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA 19140.
