Joseph F. McKavanagh, of Langhorne, died peacefully on Tuesday, September 20, 2011, at his home. He was 82.

He was the beloved husband of 59 years to the late Mary Angela McAvoy McKavanagh and father of the late Sheena and Michael McKavanagh.
Born in Northern Ireland, he was the son of the late Joseph and Sarah Bell McKavanagh.

Joe was a resident of Langhorne for the past 25 years. He emigrated from Ireland to Canada and then to Levittown, Bucks County where he lived for many years before moving to Langhorne. Joe, who was very talented with his hands, was a carpenter by trade and very proud of the work he did. He was a member of Carpenter’s Union Local 1462 for 46 years. During the course of his career he was employed throughout the East Coast as a union carpenter.

Joe was proud of his Irish heritage. He loved traveling to his hometown in Ireland to see family. It was always a time of peace and joy. Family was first and foremost in Joe’s life. His children and grandchildren were the love of his life. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Joe is survived by his four devoted children; Hugh F. McKavanagh of Levittown, Colm J. McKavanagh and his wife, Gwyn, of Levittown, Colleen M. Smith and her husband, Steven, of Doylestown, and Brian J. McKavanagh and his wife, Karen, of Doylestown. He is also survived by his sister, Josephine O’Rourke of Rose Valley and his 14 dear grandchildren; Michelle and Nicole Micalizzi, Shane, Connor, Taylor, Sarah McKavanagh, Michael and Jessica McKavanagh, Ashley, Brandon, and Ryan Smith, and Joseph, Brittany, and Patrick McKavanagh.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewings on Sunday evening, September 25, 2011, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm and Monday, September 26, 2011, from 8:30 am to 9:15 am at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 800 Newtown-Richboro Rd., (at Holland Road), Richboro and to his Funeral Mass 10:00 am at the Church of St. Andrew, 81 Swamp Road, Newtown.

Interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery, Bensalem.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory maybe made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
