John K. Wolff, of Doylestown, died peacefully on Tuesday, September 27, 2011, at his home with his family at his side. He was 81.
He was the beloved husband of 53 years to Melvina S. Wolff. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late John F. and Evelyn Letson Wolff.
John was a resident of Doylestown, since 1966, he attended Mercersburg Academy and Lafayette College. John’s community involvement goes back many years; he was the first Borough Manager for New Britain Borough and was hands on with the construction of the Borough Office Building and his managerial skills brought the office into the 20th century.
John was the former owner and operator of EPCO Graphics, which made dials and highly calibrated instrument scales through a photographic process. With the change in technology, John sold his business and turned his property into the Ironwood Business Office Complex on the same site of the former EPCO Graphics.
John was a faithful and active member of Lenape Valley Presbyterian Church in New Britain where is served as an Elder and Clerk of Session for many years. He also served a term as a District Moderator for the Presbytery of Philadelphia.
In 1972 John and Mel purchased 125 acres of land just outside of Honesdale, PA, where they designed and oversaw the construction of their home by their Lake. This retreat for family and friends, proved to be wonderful place for their children and grandchildren to gather, often as many 80 or more would camp out on his front lawn during the holidays or special occasions. This became known as the Wolff’s retirement home for ten years, until poor health brought them back to Doylestown in 2005. John was an avid golfer and a member of Doylestown Country Club for over 20 years and served on their Board of Directors for 3 years.
In addition to his beloved wife Mel, he is also survived by his devoted children; Carolyn W. Ventresca and her husband Robert, and John W. Wolff and his wife Caroline, his sister Roberta Nehlig and her husband Andrew; his 4 grandchildren Melissa Ventresca, Nick Ventresca and his wife Christianna, John Robert Wolff and Olivia Wolff.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Memorial Service on Sunday October 2, 2011 at 4:00 pm at Lenape Valley Presbyterian Church, Rt. 202 and Ute Rd. New Britain, PA 18901.
