James F. Dougherty Sr. of Warminster, PA died peacefully on Monday, October 31, 2011, at Abington Hospital, Abington, PA. He was 95.
He was the beloved husband of Ethel M. “Dollie” Kligerman Dougherty for 70 years.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late James and Margaret Kramer Dougherty, grandfather of the late Heidi Dougherty and father-in-law of the late John Hemple.
Mr. Dougherty was a resident of Ann’s Choice in Warminster for the past 3 years and formerly lived in the Somerton section of Philadelphia. He graduated from Northeast Catholic High School for Boys, Class of 1935. Mr. Dougherty was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He was the recipient of two bronze stars and successfully flew 49 missions as a B-29 tail gunner. His professional career was diverse and spanned many years. He was employed by Honeywell Corp. for 25 years, was the proprietor of a restaurant and bar, and retired in 2001 after working 20 years at Holy Redeemer Hospital as supervisor in the laundry department. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Mother Katherine Drexel Council in Northeast Philadelphia, where he was a fourth degree knight. In his leisure time, he enjoyed bowling and golfing.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his three children, James F. Dougherty and his wife, Kathleen, Debbie Hemple, and Timothy J. Dougherty and his wife, Jeanne. He is also survived by his 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Saturday, November 5, 2011, from 9:00 AM until his Funeral Mass 10:00 AM at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 654 Hatboro Road, Richboro, PA 18954.
Interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery, Bensalem.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Memorial Fund of St. Vincent de Paul Church at the above address.
