Susan L. Radwell Miller of Langhorne died suddenly, but peacefully on Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia. As in life, her loving family surrounded her when she left this world for a better one. She was 48.
Susan was the beloved wife of Jeffrey C. Miller; they met and married on LBI where they recently celebrated their 23rd wedding anniversary.
Born in Lansdale, PA, Susan was the cherished daughter of Walter and Susan RodgersRadwell of Newtown, PA. She was, and always will be, her Daddy’s Girl and her Mommy’s Baby.
Susan graduated, with Honors, in 1981 from Cheltenham High School in Wyncote, PA after which she attended Bloomsburg University. There, inspired by her beloved cousin, and childhood partner-in-crime, T.J. Radwell, she pursued a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Special Education; she was determined to make a difference in the lives of students with special needs. Susan was a founding member of the Alpha Sigma Tau Sorority at Bloomsburg. After graduating Bloomsburg in 1985, she began her teaching career at Wordsworth Academy in Fort Washington, PA. In 1989, she became a member of the Special Education Department at Neshaminy High School in Langhorne, PA; she was a proud member of the Neshaminy Federation of Teachers. A true lover of learning, she continued her post-graduate studies earning a Master’s Degree in Special Education.
Susan believed in, and rooted for every student she ever encountered; She played an integral role in thedevelopment of Neshaminy’s Student Assistance Program. The Neshaminy Educational Support Team (NEST) received recognition and awardsat the local, regional, state and national levels, twice receiving the Safe and Drug Free School Recognition from Presidents Clinton and Bush. Originally focused on crisis intervention for students with substance abuse, NEST expanded its focus to preventative and maintenance programs for students-at-risk. Susan dedicated her professional life to helping kids in pain; it was her own physical pain that required her to retire too early from the career she loved. Susan stoically suffered from degenerative disc disease and irreversible nerve damagefor the last ten years.
Susan was an avid Philadelphia Sports fanatic; no fair-weatherd fan, she stayed loyal to her teams, she never missed a game. A perfect day for her was spent watching the Eagles, win or lose, with her extended family. While in the hospital, her family half expected the doctors to confirm that Susan did indeed bleed GREEN.
An animal lover, she was the proud owner of three Labrador Retrievers and was actively involved in Lab Rescue groups.
In addition to her loving husband and parents, Susan is survived by her two beloved children, Jeffrey C. Miller (Hooter) and Kathleen Mary Miller (Choobie). Her children were her world.
She is also survived by her adoring sister, KimberleeRadwell May, brother-in-law, Christopher T. May and her niece and Goddaughter Maggie Radwell May of Newtown. Her in-laws Charles and Ann Miller of Southampton, a loving brother and sister-in-law Charlie and Donna Miller, and two amazing nephews Kevin and Danny Miller of Warminster.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Thomas J. Radwelland KathleenT. AbramsRadwell of Lansdale, and her maternal grandparents Robert E. Rodgers and Patricia R.Hower Rodgers of Philadelphia.
