Steven Edward Gregory of Churchville passed away on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at the age of 22.

Born in Langhorne, he was the beloved son of W. Jay and Christine Lanier Gregory, and maternal grandson of the late Edward Munroe and Loyce Bennett Lanier.

Steven was a resident of Churchville, PA and a 2007 graduate of Council Rock High School South. He received his Associate’s Degree from Deep Springs College in California and recently his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Philosophy from Bard College in New York.

Coming home this fall Steven rethought his direction and in many respects returned to his roots, one of those being the world of words. This month he was preparing to enroll in graduate school to obtain his secondary school teaching certificate and Master’s degree in English in order to teach at the high school level. Like all that he pursued Steven passionately began formulating his own methods of teaching grammar, literature and writing as he had an instinctive gift regarding words and the English language. He desired to impart his enthusiasm to his students.

A self learner, Steven read extensively and was a visionary thinker beyond his years. To say he loved learning would be an understatement.

Perhaps most importantly we will recall Steven’s character. He was a gentle young man with a caring heart whose insights regarding life and people were remarkable. He was compassionate toward those who were different or hurting. Steven was in the pure sense of the word a seeker of truth in ideology and his own inner convictions and actions. His faith in God was the foundation of his character, and his integrity and honesty were keynotes of his life. He displayed a strong work ethic, whether playing football as a youth, learning to play the guitar, thoroughly investigating entomology since childhood, or writing poetry as a young adult.

There are no words to express how sorely Steven will be missed by his loving and devoted family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Steven is survived by his sister Lauren Anne Gregory of Churchville; he is also survived by his paternal grandparents Richard A. and Muriel Ayer Gregory of Lancaster; his uncles, Edward M. Lanier, Jr., R. Alan Gregory, Jr. and his wife Linda and his aunt, Judith Kerns and her husband Bill and several cousins.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Memorial Service Wednesday evening, December 28, 2011 at 7:00pm at Crossing Community Church at 80 Lower Silver Lake Rd. Newtown, PA 18940.

Steven’s family requests that you join them for fellowship and light refreshments immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Crossing Community Church.
