Joseph S. Kakas, formerly of Huntingdon Valley, PA, died peacefully on Monday, September 1, 2014, at Luther Park, Hatboro, PA. He was 97.

He was the husband of the late Mary Madden Kakas for 46 years.

Born in Bethlehem, PA, he was the son of the late Julia (Buki) and Joseph Kakas and brother of the late Elizabeth, John, Ernest, Arthur & James Kakas, Helen Papp, Julia Piskovics and Aurelia Horvath.

From 1945 until 1978, Mr. Kakas was employed as a tool & die engineer with Philco Corporation. Then he worked for Krass Inc. for 4 years as well as another small machine shop, finally retiring at the age of 88. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy with a combined total of 25 years of service between active duty and the Reserves. In his leisure time he enjoyed repairing watches and was a talented ballroom dancer. He was both a gentleman and a gentle man throughout his lifetime. He will be sadly missed as a devoted father, brother and friend to all who knew him.

He is survived by his daughter, Susan E. Richardson and her husband, John F., of Richboro, his two brothers, Stephen and Andrew Kakas, and his sister-in-law, Betty Hartzell.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Tuesday, September 9, 2014, from 10:00 AM until his Funeral Mass 11:00 AM at St. Bede the Venerable Church, 1071 Holland Road, Holland, PA 18966.

Interment will military honors will take place at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown, PA.
