Cats have nine lives. Allen Ray Rupp had four.
He lost his first life at age 50 to a stroke, though he bounced back and made a full recovery.
Four years later, he was diagnosed with mesothelioma, a rare aggressive cancer that cost him a lung. Virtually everyone diagnosed with mesothelioma die within five years. Allen lived cancer-free for 10.
His third life was lost in July 2016, when he briefly died after a heart attack. Urgent care staff and emergency responders resuscitated him. The doctors opened a blocked artery, inserted a stent, and Allen started his fourth life.
It lasted until June 6, 2018 when Allen Rupp very reluctantly left this world after he fought like hell against complications related to a reoccurrence of his lung cancer. He was 67.
Allen was born and raised in Philadelphia, the younger son of Bertha C. and Raymond S. Rupp, who preceded him in death.
After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Penn State University (he was a longtime Nittany Lions season ticket holder), Allen worked 40 years at Oliver Tolas Corp., of Feasterville, as company controller and accountant, until his much debated retirement in 2015.
He was a resident of Bensalem since 1986, where he made a life with his true love, Richard M. Snyder, who preceded him in death, their many cats and Allen’s childhood turtle named Killer.
He is survived by his older brother John E. Rupp, of Philadelphia; his niece, Jacqueline C. Rupp, of Abington, his-great-niece, Colette Gillespie Rupp and great-nephew Anthony Gillespie Rupp, his aunt, Clara Stellman, cousins Rita Kinney, Kerry Boyce, James Miller, and his beloved kitties, Smokey and Sparky,
He will be missed most by his best friend and faithful companion, Joann Ciavaglia, of Bensalem, and many neighbors and great friends including Joyce Pedrick, of Wyndmoor, Greg Poling, of Virginia, and Ron Chancellor, of Falls, as well as his surrogate nieces, Melanie Brower Poknis and Erica Brower Malgieri.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Allen's visitation on Friday, August 17, 2018 from 10:00am until the start of his funeral service, 11:00am at the Joseph A. Fluehr, III Funeral Home, 800 Newtown Richboro Road, at Holland Rd., Richboro, PA 18954. His interment will take place privately.
