Recent Obituaries

Richard J. O'Brien

June 17th, 2018

Richard J. O’Brien of Langhorne passed away on June 17, 2018 at home with his loving wife and family by his side.  He was 75. 

Rich was the devoted husband of Mary McCloskey O’Brien with whom he shared 53 years of marriage. 

Born in Philadelphia he was the son of the late Francis J. and Dorothy Hunter O’Brien and brother of the late James O’Brien. 

Rich graduated from West Catholic High School and went on to lead a long career as a Philadelphia Firefighter and EMT with Engine 22 & Ladder 31, retiring in 1990.  Originally from Southwest Philadelphia, he later settled to raise his family in Northeast Philadelphia and moved to Langhorne 15 years ago. 

Rich was an active member of the Shady Brook Rotary, was an avid golfer, and a devout Philadelphia sports fan.  He also volunteered as a driver for the American Cancer Society.  Rich was also a hard worker having always held down two jobs to ensure a bright future for his family. 

Above all else, Rich will be remembered for his steadfast love and devotion to his family and for his kind and gentle spirit.  He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children; Mary O’Brien Gallagher (Ed), Katherine O’Brien Szatkowski (Steve), Richard O’Brien (Suzy), and Michele O’Brien Callinan (Ted).  He also leaves behind his brother Frank O’Brien (Mary); and his eight grandchildren, Brendan, Andrew, Maura, Kasey, Shawn, Meghan, Owen, and Erin.   

Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 800 Newtown-Richboro Rd. (at Holland Rd.), Richboro, PA 18954 and to his Funeral Mass Thursday, June 21, 2018 10:30 AM at The Church of St. Andrew, 81 Swamp Rd., Newtown, PA 18940.  His interment will follow in SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Springfield.

Dorothy M. Mutschler (LaTour)

June 17th, 2018

Dorothy M. Mutschler of Warminster, PA died peacefully on Sunday, June 17, 2018 at the Rose Garden at Ann's Choice in Warminster. She was 80.

Born in Jersey City New Jersey, Dorothy was the beloved wife of the late William R. Mutschler and daughter of the late Vincent and Edna Stigler LaTour and sister of the late Robert LaTour.

Dorothy was a resident of Ann’s Choice for the past 15 years having formerly lived in Yardley for over 18 years. She was a communicant of St. Andrew’s Parish Newtown, a member of the Red Hat Society, traveled the world and enjoyed a game of chance.

Dorothy is survived by her loving children Michele T. Levy and her husband Jeffrey A. Levy and Laura A. Marneris and her husband John D. Marneris. She is also survived by 1 brother; Edward LaTour and his wife Elaine and 2 sisters; Joan Chittenden and Mary Hobson. Also surviving are her dear grandchildren; Jennifer Nusky, Kristen McCabe, Michael Levy, James Marneris (Gisun), Brittany Herbott (Christopher), Stephanie Marneris and many great grandchildren and her dear friend and companion Larry Daley.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewings Thursday evening June 21, 2018 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm and on Friday June 22, from 8:15 am to 9:15am at the Joseph A. John J. Ercolono

June 16th, 2018

John J. Ercolono, of Philadelphia, PA died on Saturday, June 16, 2018, at Holy Redeemer Hospice, surrounded by his family. He was 75.

He was the beloved husband of 52 years to Carol Ann Ercolono.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Anthony and Adelaide Zielinski Ercolono.

John served as a Private First Class in the US Army and was honorably discharge in 1965.  He proudly worked for the Budd Company for over 35 years.

In addition to his loving wife, John is survived by his three daughters; Gia M. Miksiewicz and her husband Frank of Chalfont, Dina A. Walsh and her husband Brian of Philadelphia and Michelle Minitti and her husband Gregory of Philadelphia.  He is also survived by his 7 grandchildren. 

His funeral mass and interment will be held privately by the family.

Susan Hoopes (Perry)

June 16th, 2018

Susan Perry Hoopes, of Moore Haven, FL died peacefully at her home on Saturday, June 16, 2018. She was 67.

Susan was the beloved daughter of the late Ernest L. and Beatrice Norton Perry.    

Susan was a former resident of Bucks County for many years and a graduate of Neshaminy High School (1968) and Temple University. 

Susan's professional career spanned many years as a successful Realtor. Susan was an active member of the women's auxiliary.

Susan gave her time and talents to several charitable organizations, especially those that helped under privileged women and children Agape Home, Inc., St Joseph's Ministries, those with cancer, and Betak AIDS hospice.

She will be sadly missed for her zest for life. 

Susan is survived by her 3 daughters; Dawn Hoopes and her partner Jason White, Amy Hoopes Piergrossi and her husband Justin and Lynne Hoopes. Three grandchildren; Ella, Natalie and Lyla. She is also survived by her brother. Susan will be missed by many extended family members and friends.

Susan's family will receive condolences on Monday, June 25, 2018 from 9:00 am until her Memorial Service at 11:00am at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home 241 E. Butler Ave. (at Sandy Ridge Rd.) New Britain, PA 18901.

James J. Bannon

June 14th, 2018

James J. Bannon passed away on June 14, 2018 at Doylestown Hospital with his loving family by his side.  He was 66.

James was the loving husband of Roxann Horace “Sugar” Bannon.

Born in Philadelphia he was the son of the late James P. and Mary Harvey Bannon. 

James, known as Jim to many, was taken too soon. He was hardworking, witty, and always ensured the people he loved the most were taken care of. Jim enjoyed cooking for his family and friends, spending time at the beach, and watching the Phillies and the Eagles. He will be missed by many.

In addition to his wife, James is survived by his children, Colleen Parker (Keith), James "J.T." Bannon (Lindsey).  He also leaves behind his adoring grandchildren, Remi Jayms & Rogan Eugene Parker and Alessandra Brielle & James Patrick Bannon; and his sisters, Peg McHugh (Tom), Jane Lawrence (Mark) & Connie Bannon.

Helen L. Geiger

Helen L. Geiger passed away peacefully on June 11, 2018 at St. Joseph Manor in Meadowbrook. She was 95.

Born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, she was the daughter to the late Wilson E. and Johnetta Hoffman Geiger and sister to the late Louis Geiger.

Helen is survived by her loving sisters; Florence Bauhof and her husband George, Joan Meierdiercks and her husband Walter and Evelyn Chester and her late husband Thomas.

Ralph T. Roberts

June 11th, 2018

Ralph Thomas Roberts went to be with his Lord on June 11, 2018 after losing his battle with dementia at the age of 75.    

He leaves behind Marilyn, his wife of 50 years, a daughter and son-in-law, Frank and Jennifer Hackett of Jamison, and a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Vanessa Roberts, of Bel Air, Md.  He was a much loved Pop Pop to his four grandchildren, Garrett and Emily Hackett and Molly and Heather Roberts.  Ralph also leaves a brother and sister-in-law, Albert and Florence Roberts, of Doylestown, and a sister, Alice Spyrou, of Thessaloniki, Greece, as well as nieces and nephews.

Ralph was born in Philadelphia and grew up in South Jersey.  He joined the Air Force after high school serving four years, both in the states and Southeast Asia as an air traffic controller.  After his discharge he was hired by the Federal Aviation Agency and continued his career as an air traffic controller in NY, NJ, and PA for another 36 years.                     

A lifelong Presbyterian, Ralph served as an elder, Sunday School Superintendent, and Treasurer for several churches in the area as well as one in NC where he and Marilyn had moved after retirement. Ralph loved to volunteer and did so for hospitals, schools, and Meals on Wheels in PA and NC.

A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, June 30th, at Lenape Valley Church, 321 West Butler Avenue, New Britain, PA 18901 visitation at 10:00, service at 11:00, followed by a luncheon at noon.

Barbara A. Miller

June 10th, 2018

Barbara A. Miller of Doylestown died at home from ALS on June 10, 2018. She was 69.

Born in Philadelphia she resided in Doylestown for over 40 years and was the daughter of the late Willett and Edith Trofi Miller, and niece of the late Marie Trofi.

Barbara graduated from Gwynedd Mercy College in 1970 and earned her Master’s degree from Villanova University in 1973.  She worked at Bucks County Community College from 1975-2014 serving in many roles, from director of contract services and community service to Vice President of continuing education, workforce development and public safety.  While there, she was instrumental in building a strong and prosperous continuing education department, workforce development, and fire safety training programs. A testimony of Barb’s leadership was the loyalty, respect, and support of her staff which continued even after her retirement.

Barbara is survived by her brother, Robert Miller Sr. and his wife, Patricia and her best friend, Karen Dawkins, with whom she shared her life for over 40 years. She is also survived by her two nieces and their husbands, Christy Mack and Martin and Colleen Ambrosine and Matthew and her two nephews and their wives, Robert Miller and Sonnonedria and Patrick Miller and Kate and her great-nephew Matthew Ambrosine Jr. She was also a special “Aunt BA” to VJ, Samantha, and Trisha.

A devout member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Barbara served as a Eucharistic Minister, served on the Board of RENEW International and as a Chaplain at Doylestown Hospital. She also served on the Bucks County Housing Authority.

Barbara was well known for her honesty, energy, and generosity. No challenge seemed too great and if anyone needed help she was there! She spent many hours volunteering and demonstrating her comedic talents with State Street Players, a theater group of OLMC.

Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing from 9:30 AM until her Funeral Mass 12:00 PM, on Friday, June 15th at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 235 East State Street, Doylestown PA 18901.   Her interment will follow in Doylestown Cemetery.

Genevieve “Sue” Pluck (Bowman)

June 10th, 2018

Genevieve M. Pluck “Sue”  of Madison, CT and formerly of Chalfont, passed away peacefully at the age of 74 on Sunday, June 10, 2018, with her family by her side.

She was the beloved wife of 48 years to John J. Pluck, loving mother of Jennifer Landmark (Wilson), John Pluck Jr. (Kim), Brian Pluck (Amy), Patrick Pluck (Allison), Brendon Pluck (Amanda) and proud grandmother to 14 grandchildren.

Born and raised in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late James and Genevieve (Werkley) Bowman and sister of the late Margie Gallo and Patty Bowman.

In addition to her husband, children and grandchildren, she is survived and lovingly remembered by her two brothers Jimmy (Sharon) and Tom (Robin) Bowman and her two sisters, Kathy Beal, Barbara Gibboni (Dave) along with many nieces, nephews and brothers and sisters in law.

She will be remembered fondly, missed terribly and will always hold a special place in our hearts.

William Owen

June 9th, 2018

William Owen of Richboro, died at the age of 83 on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

He was the beloved husband of Barbara Whitlock Owen and the late Estella Parker Owen.

Born in Philadelphia, Bill was the son of the late John and Alice Dollscheck Owen and grandfather of the late Sonny Wardlow III and brother of the late Kenneth Owen.

Bill was a former resident of Hatboro before moving to Richboro in 1977. He was the owner of Owen Equipment Company which sold automotive engine rebuilding equipment. Bill was extremely family focused and enjoyed spending quality times with his family and his dogs, especially Jake and was an avid John Wayne fan. He was a member of the Neshaminy Harbor Yacht club and was a passionate boater, who owned many boats throughout his life with his latest being "Another World". Bill enjoyed cruising his boat with his wife Barbara and their friends and family and visited many places which included the Chesapeake Bay, and spending many weekends at the Tullytown Cove on the Delaware River. He will be truly missed by his family and by all who came to know him.

In addition to his beloved wife Barbara, William will be greatly missed by his children, Scott and Theresa of Richboro, Gayle Wardlow and her husband Sonny of Cocoa, Florida, Robert and Patty of Hatboro, Michael and Amy of Doylestown, David and Beth of Warminster. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jake Wardlow and his fiance Tiffany, Kyle Owen, Holly Owen, Sara Owen, Michael Owen, Ryan Owen and his great grandson, Gavin Wardlow.
