Loretta Lucas (Rauch)

January 31st, 2014

Loretta Rauch Lucas of St. Mary Manor in Lansdale and formerly of the Somerton section of Philadelphia died peacefully on Friday, January 31, 2014. She was 87.

Born in Philadelphia, Loretta was the daughter of the late Frank and Adelaide Showers Rauch and sister of the late Charles Rauch.

Loretta was the beloved wife of the late Norman Lucas and the loving mother of Richard Lucas and his wife Debbie, Kathleen Farina and her husband Richard, Karen Adair and her husband Michael, Rev. Robert F. Lucas, and Kimberly Lucas and her husband David Brautlecht. In addition to her children, she is survived by her brother Frank Rauch, 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Relatives, friends and members of the clergy are invited to attend her Funeral Mass that will be celebrated by her son, Rev. Richard F. Lucas on Friday, February 7, 2014 in St. Christopher Church 13301 Proctor Rd. Philadelphia, PA 19116.

Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Cheltenham, PA.

Frank R. Mallon Sr.

January 31st, 2014

Frank R. Mallon Sr. of Feasterville died peacefully on Friday, January 31, 2014, at his residence surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with lymphoma. He was 67.

He was the beloved husband of Judith A. Gryskiewicz Mallon for 47 years.

Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Edward T. and Roseanne Reynolds Mallon, father of the late Denise Mallon, and brother of the late Edward and Gerald Mallon.

Frank was a graduate of Father Judge High School for Boys in Philadelphia, Class of 1964 and a member of Assumption B.V.M. Church in Feasterville.

He was the long time co-owner of Deputy Crown, Inc., a printing company located in Camden, NJ and most recently was employed at Kalnin Graphics in Jenkintown for several years.

In his leisure time, Frank enjoyed golfing, vacationing with his family at the Jersey shore, and watching all the local sports teams, especially the Philadelphia Eagles, Flyers and Phillies. For many years he volunteered his time as a devoted baseball coach for Lower Southampton Athletic Association.

He was very proud of his Irish heritage and was lucky enough to visit Ireland twice in his lifetime. He will be sadly missed as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to all who knew him.

In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his four children; Christine Choukair and her husband, Mohamed, of Tallahassee, FL, Kelley O’Leary and her husband, Jim, of Warrington, Lori Grake and her husband, Brian, of Holland, and Frank R. Mallon Jr. of Feasterville and his two brothers, Thomas Mallon of Solebury, PA and Dennis Mallon and his wife, Sharon, of Courtland, VA. He is also survived by his five loving grandchildren; Gabriel, Abigail and Emily Mallon and Erin and Shannon O’Leary as well as many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewings on Wednesday evening, February 5, 2014, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 800 Newtown-Richboro Road (at Holland Road), Richboro, PA 18954 and on Thursday, February 6, 2014, at Assumption B.V.M. Church, 1900 Meadowbrook Avenue, Feasterville, PA 19053 from 9:30 AM until his Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM.

Interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery, Bensalem.

Geraldine L. Thompson (Yeager)

January 30th, 2014

Geraldine L. (nee Yeager) Thompson, of Feasterville, passed away on Thursday, January 30, 2014 at her home surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 49.

She shared her life for the past ten years with her beloved husband, Bruce J. Thompson.

Born in Philadelphia, she was a daughter of Helen G. (nee Crean) Yeager of Pennsylvania and the late William J. Yeager, and sister to the late John “Budd” Yeager and MaryBeth Pellegrini.

Geri was employed by Waste Managements in community relations for over 10 years. She loved her job, and served on several different boards to benefit the community, enriching many lives.

One of her favorite pastimes was working in her gardens. She enjoyed watching plants grow and “playing” in her garden. She had an eye for detail for the world around her, a talent she used in her job, her home and in her relationships with those she loved. She loved animals, especially her German Shepherd Jax and her cat Zeus.

Geri was thoughtful, considerate and selfless, and touched the lives of many. She had a contagious smile and brought joy to those around her. She will be deeply missed.

In addition to her mother and husband, Geri is survived by her stepchildren: Airman Bruce Thompson of OK and April Thompson of PA; her granddaughter Olivia; her siblings: William Yeager Jr. (Nancy) of FL, Lynn Jacobson (Steven) of NY, Susan Yeager of NJ, Joseph Yeager of NJ, David Yeager of PA, Anthony Yeager of NJ, Stephen Yeager of PA, Patrice Martin of PA, and Michaele Nissley (William) of PA; and many nieces and nephews.

Christine E. Witte (Scanlon)

January 27th, 2014

Christine E. Witte of Perkasie, PA died suddenly on Monday, January 27, 2014, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was 51.

She was the beloved wife of the late Ronald F. Witte.

Born in Bristol, she was the daughter of Joan D. Price Scanlon of Ivyland and the late William J. Scanlon.

Chris was a resident of Perkasie for the past 26 years. She was a graduate of Council Rock High School, Class of 1980. For over 20 years, she was employed as a cashier at Giant Food Store in Perkasie. Chris was a dance instructor at Elite Dance Academy in Richboro. She was an avid walker who enjoyed her daily exercise. She was a member of the “Flamingals,” a group of ladies who loved to travel together, socialize on a regular basis and play board games. She enjoyed spending time with her family including her children and grandchildren.

In addition to her beloved mother, she is survived by her three children, Kristen Rhodes and her husband, Ryan, Ryan Witte and Taylorann Witte, all of Perkasie, her two brothers, Michael W. Scanlon and his wife, Terry, Patrick Scanlon, and her three sisters, Kathleen Sanders and her husband, Doug, Mary Ellen Scanlon and her partner, Dawn, and Joanne Schaefer and her husband, Doug. She is also survived by her two dear grandsons, Ryder and Jackson.

Chris’ family will receive condolences on Friday, January 31, from 4:30 PM until her Prayer Service and Words of Remembrance at 6:00 PM at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 241 East Butler Avenue (at Sandy Ridge Road), New Britain, PA 18901. Interment will be held privately.

Joseph F. Hellenbrand

January 27th, 2014

Joseph F. Hellenbrand, of Southampton, died Monday, January 27, 2014 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was 75.

Joe was the beloved husband of 52 years to Marie Paparo Hellenbrand.

Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Joseph P. and Sarah Doyle Hellenbrand.

Joe was a former resident of Huntingdon Valley before moving to Southampton in 2004. He was a graduate of LaSalle High School, class of 1957 and Villanova University in 1961 with his degree in Business Administration. Joe was a dedicated 50 plus year employee of James D. Morrissey, Inc., Philadelphia, having started working there when he was in school, he retired in 2004 as General Superintendent of the Asphalt Paving division, overseeing the paving of many of the highways in Philadelphia and the surrounding counties. He was a Eucharistic Minister for many years at St. Albert the Great Church in Huntingdon Valley and at St. Joseph Manor in Meadowbrook and was recently a Communicant at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Southampton and a 25 year member of the Men of Malvern. In his leisure, he enjoyed spending quality time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He will be deeply sadly missed not only by his family but many close friends.

In addition to his beloved wife Marie, Joe is survived by his children and their spouses, Mary Sacchetti and her husband Joseph of North Wales, Christine Hutton and her husband Gary of Southampton, Kathleen Bedder and her husband Chris of North Providence, NJ and Joseph Hellenbrand and his wife Denise of Southampton. He is also survived by his 10 grandchildren, his sister Mary Allare of South Carolina and many cousins.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing from 9:30 am until Words of Remembrance at 11:20 am followed by his Funeral Mass 11:30am on Monday February 3rd in Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, Second Street Pike and Knowles Avenue, Southampton, PA 18966.

Kristen M. Newfield (McCandless)

January 25th, 2014

Kristen M. Newfield, of Perkasie, died suddenly on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Quakertown Campus. She was 44.

Kristen was the beloved wife of 14 years to Bryan A. Newfield.

Born in Abington, she was the daughter of Robert and Charlotte Waetjen McCandless of Chalfont.

Kristen was a resident of Perkasie for 14 years having formerly residing in Chalfont. She was a graduate of Central Bucks School District, and received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from both Bucks County Community College and Kutztown University. Kristen continued her education and received her Masters of Elementary Education from Arcadia University. She started her career at FDR Middle School in Bristol.

Kristen was a dedicated and accomplished Art teacher in the Central Bucks School District. She was currently teaching at the Linden Elementary School in Doylestown and the Barclay Elementary School in Warrington. In her leisure she enjoyed kayaking, camping, gardening, and swimming. She loved doing crafts and coaching soccer.

In addition to her husband and parents, Kristen is survived by her two cherished children, Elizabeth Marie Newfield and Ryley A. Newfield, both at home in Perkasie and her brothers and sisters, Robert Patrick McCandless of Quakertown, Michael McCandless of Chalfont, Charlotte McClintock of Kintnersville, Stephen McCandless of Charlestown, RI and Lauretta Halderson of Chalfont. She was also the daughter-in-law of Fred Newfield of Delray, FL and Sandra Couts of Cape May Court House, NJ and the aunt to 24 nieces and nephews.

Relatives, friends and colleagues are invited to attend her viewing from 5:00 to 8:00pm on Friday January 31st and to her Funeral Mass 10:00am on Saturday February 1st in St. Jude Church, 321 W. Butler Avenue, Chalfont, PA 18914.

Interment will follow in St. John Neumann Cemetery in Chalfont.

Charlotte M. Mahon (Young)

January 24th, 2014

Charlotte M. Mahon, of Germansville and formerly of New Britain, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 24, 2014 at her home with her family by her side. She was 91.

Born in Philadelphia, PA she was a daughter of the late John J. and Charlotte Betz Young.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, John S. Mahon.

Charlotte graduated from J.W. Hallahan Catholic Girls School. Before her marriage, she worked as a secretary to the president of a transportation company. She married John in 1948, and would spend almost 60 years together caring for their family.

She had a green thumb and loved both flower and vegetable gardening, as well as crochet and puzzles.

Charlotte’s greatest joy in life was raising her 8 sons. She worked hard to take care of her family and home, and also worked in retail to help support them. She was a loving mother and grandmother, and will be dearly missed.

Charlotte is survived by her children: John Mahon and his wife Marianne of New Britain, Tim Mahon and his wife Cathy of Germansville, Bob Mahon and his wife Wendy of Catasauqua, Tom Mahon and his wife Beth of Doylestown, Joe Mahon and his wife Jen of Sellersville, Vince Mahon and his wife Sue of Hatfield, Pat Mahon of Germansville and Chris Mahon of Souderton; her sister: Joan Dombrowski and her husband Len of Washington; 21 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 from 10:00 am until her Funeral Mass at 12:00 pm in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 235 East State St., Doylestown, PA 18901.

Joseph Richter Jr.

January 23rd, 2014

Joseph A. Richter Jr. of Richboro, PA died peacefully on Thursday, January 23, 2014, surrounded by his family at Chandler Hall Health Care. He was 93.

He was the beloved husband of the late Virginia A. Wahlman Richter.

Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Joseph A. Sr. and Catherine Reim Richter and brother of the late Kathryn D. Burroughs.
Joe was a resident of Richboro for 50 years. He graduated from Olney High School in Philadelphia, Class of 1938 and furthered his education at the Rising Sun School of Aeronautics, a division of Penn State University. He was a proud veteran of the Army Air Corps having served during World War II.
In 1960, using his mechanical ability, Joe founded Richter’s Power Equipment in Roslyn, a business specializing in lawn and garden equipment, and serviced many customers until his retirement in 1986.

He was a Mason and a 55 year member of the Friendship-Williams Lodge # 400 F & AM. He enjoyed fresh water fishing and hunting small game and was a member of Long Run Hunting Lodge in Wellsboro, PA. Joe was an avid volleyball player and had his own league which met every Tuesday night in his backyard for many years. He was a loyal fan of the Phillies and Eagles. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor and sadly missed as a devoted father, grandfather and friend.

He is survived by his three children, Joseph A. Richter III and his wife, Louise M., of Lehighton, Robert D. Richter Sr. and his wife, Donna A., of Holland, and Deborah L. Detweiler and her husband, John, of Trevose. He is also survived by his two grandsons, Robert D. Richter Jr. and Christopher D. Richter and two nephews, Thomas and Gary Wahlman.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Wednesday, January 29, 2014, from 11:00 AM until his Funeral Service 12:30 PM at the Joseph A. James Weitzel

James J. “Jim” Weitzel of Holland, PA died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, January 22 at his residence. He was 82 years old.

Jim was born Oct. 25, 1931 in Philadelphia, PA. Jim was the son of the late John H. and Helen Wenninger Weitzel and brother to the late John Weitzel (surviving spouse Margaret), the late Paul Weitzel (Virginia), and the late Antoinette Weitzel. He is survived by his sister Margaret Weitzel of Holland, PA.

Jim was the beloved husband of 54 years to the late Dorothy R. Weitzel (nee-Hagan) and their loving children; Dorothy A. Rodgers and her husband Bill of Holland, Joseph E. Weitzel of Bensalem, Helen M. Bolton and her husband Bill of Wesley Chapel, FL, Catherine M. Rhoads and her husband Richard of Huntingdon Valley, Rosemary Peters and her husband Dean of Eagleville, Mary Claire Connelly and her husband Jeff of Gainsville, FL, Theresa I. Gianos and her husband Steve of Southampton and Bernadette DeCaro and her husband Chris of Bristol. In addition to his children, he is survived by 36 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Jim was a proud graduate of Northeast Catholic HS and a veteran of the Air Force who served his country during the Korean Conflict. It was in the Air Force Jim first learned photography and later used this expertise in forming the James J. Weitzel Inc. real estate multiple listing company, which he operated until his retirement in 1996.
