Richard J. Fusco

April 21st, 2015

Richard J. Fusco of Tucson since 2003, died at his home on April 21st. He was 83.

Dick was the husband of 58 years to Susan Fawcett Fusco.

Born in Norristown, in 1931 and growing up in Perkasie, he was the son of the late Anthony and Marie Pompeii Fusco.

He graduated from Sell-Perk High School, where he excelled in athletics, especially track and field events. He went on to Juniata College and was involved in track and tennis, became captain of the tennis team and president of the student senate. The Korean War interrupted Dick's college years when he enlisted and served in Korea as a member of the Army National Guard. He returned to campus as the first Korean veteran. He and Susan Fawcett met at Juniata and were later married.

The business world claimed Dick after college. He worked for several companies, including Sears Roebuck for many years. Eventually he went into banking, and after a few years was employed by First National Bank and Trust Company of Newtown, in Newtown, Pennsylvania to run their small trust department. He built up the trust department over his career of 24 years and became executive vice-president. Dick enjoyed working with people and developed close relationships with his customers, earning their respect and confidence. He believed that the existence of small, community banks is important to meet individual needs for customer service.

Dick served the Newtown community, where he and his family lived for many years, as a  member of the board of directors of St. Mary Hospital, trustee of Newtown Presbyterian Church, ruling elder of Newtown Presbyterian Church, member and past president of Newtown Exchange Club, and member of several professional banking committees.

His family was a priority in Dick's life. He loved pinochle games with his parents and siblings, multi-generational family picnics, vacations with his wife and children, and celebrating Thanksgiving and Christmas together. He felt a strong responsibility for providing a secure home and future for his family.

Dick and Susan enjoyed many years of travel together later in life. They visited many parts of the world and diverse parts of the United States. Every summer they spent time on the coast of Maine, a favorite spot for them and for their children. They hiked, climbed mountains, walked on beaches, watched sunsets and marveled at the stars and the wonders of the world. Together they enjoyed nature, and at the end of his life, Dick loved watching the mountains turn pink, alongside Susan, from chairs at the front of their home in Tucson.

In addition to his wife Susan, Dick is survived by his loving children; Christopher (Amanda), Lauren (Robert) and Amy (Scott), and his siblings; Joan Snyder (James), Jean Weaver, Donald Fusco (Beverly) and Linda Fusco.
