I am so sorry to all of Al's family. I got to know him from Amtrak, the company I work for is a repair facility for Amtrak, so I would always have to call him to get approval. At first he was a tough cookie and I always dreaded calling him, then I told him he was very intimidating and I wish he would stop - after that, we were best friends! I had never heard of the Mummers parade, so one year he sent me a ribbon from the Jolly Jolly's and explained what the whole thing was. He would also send me Christmas cards every year. He was always making me laugh and talked a lot about his companion, his brother and his son and going to the shore. R.I.P Al Dowd! You have been missed, and you will be missed. Steph

I was saddened to hear of Al's passing and I wish to extend my condolences to Al's friends and family. I worked with Al for many years at Amtrak and considered him a good friend and a great railroader. As others have mentioned his sense of humor and smile made spending time with him fun and special. RIP friend
