Peg and family.
We were so sorry to hear of Doug's illness and death. We never did get down to the Villages to visit you, the time seems to fly so fast. Please rest assured, you are in our thoughts and prayers at this sad time. If you need us for anything, Peg, we are ready, willing and able to help. God bless Doug's soul, and may he pass quickly into the arms of Abraham.

Peg,
You may remember Helen (wife) and I from Doug's 50th USNA Reunion then Teresa (daughter) and I from Doug's 55th USNA Reunion. I'm so happy to have those two occasions to recall how Doug was just the same sweet guy as when he and I threw our caps in the air in 1960 and left the 15th Company behind. I visited him in Mt. Carmel a month or so later then crossed paths with him in 1962 in Augsburg, Germany. Both of us had chosen Army so we were still comrades-in-arms. Then 48 years passed without personal contact.
Thanks to Shipmate, we could track each other a bit. When I heard he left the Army for US Steel, I predicted he'd eventually be the top dog in that field. He chuckled when I told him that at our 50th. Gotta love his quiet chuckle, the look on his face...it was the same in 2010 and 2015 as in 1960. As I recall, Dave "Pancho" Lowry was Doug's roommate in the 15th Company. I haven't seen Pancho for 57 years but I know where he is and I intend to visit him this summer and reminisce about Doug. Doug and his way of being will be missed by many.

Doug and I were classmate at USNA and lived across the hall during Plebe summer in 1956 and became the best of friends. Doug went into the US Army after graduation and I went Navy Air. We didn't see one another until our 50th USNA Reunion and we caught up with one another like we had been together many times. I met Peg and we really had a good time together. I am sending my sincerest condolences to Peg and Doug's family. Doug was a wonderful man, friend, and warrior. He will be missed. Don Boecker, Rear Admiral, USN (Retired)
