Karen so sorry for your loss.....time stops. Glad you have peace in what you had with your Mom when she was here that helps but there is no loss like your Mom. I wish you time to grieve, time to heal, time to move on to a new "normal" for those left behind. You are in my thoughts and prayers during this most difficult time. Family and friends is what gets us through. Hugs to you!

Dear Annmarie, Kate, Maureen, John, Mary Jean and Karen,

We are so sorry for your loss. Betty was a lovely woman and she had such well-deserved pride in each of you. We hope that the kind wishes of many friends will make your grief easier to bear.

It is often said that one mother can take care of six children but six children cannot take care of one mother. Generally speaking, there is more than a nugget of truth in this adage; however, the six of you are the exception to the rule. We know, without a doubt, that we have never seen a family take such good care of their mother. You were each lovingly motivated to tend to Betty’s needs even when she did not know that she needed your help. It is such a blessing to die with dignity surrounded by those you love and those who love you. Each of you made that possible for your mother. As each of you now go about your daily lives, you can be proud of yourselves as children, mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, spouses and true Christians.

Try to remember, as you grieve, that your loss is your mother’s gain as she rests in the embrace of her Lord.

Love and sympathy,
Cathe and Philip Mappin

I remember Betty as being a woman who was full of laughter and always in the company of family and friends.

How I remember the many times on Christmas Eve, the Baby Jesus Cake. Betty made sure that all of her children, grand children, and great grandchildren, and also others were all around the Baby Jesus Cake. She would insist that the youngest child blow out one of the candles first, followed by the other children. She was very strict in maintaining this traditional Christmas Eve procedure.

She loved to travel and enjoyed her trip to Ireland. I remember her telling me that she almost hit her head on the Blarney Stone! We laughed together about this story.

A great baker she was. I relish her recepies that she unselfishly gave to me. My favorite is her pumpkin crème roll!

A proud mother and grandmother to all of her family. If you were not family, Betty made sure you were part of the Scanlan Clan.

You will be missed Betty! You will have forever peace and solitude with Jesus!

We are so sorry for your loss. Certainly your mom knew she was loved, and cared for, certainly she is missed. What better gift to give a person than for them to know how much they are loved. I know she will see you again and in the mean time, be assured she is looking down smiling and proud of her family. Blessings. With love.
