Irene H. Hopkins Anderson of Richboro, PA went home to her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on Wednesday, September 10, 2014, at Twining Manor in Holland and joins her husband, Robert Eugene Anderson Sr. who predeceased her in 1981. She was 91.

Irene Hildegard was born on July 23, 1923 in Pittsburgh, PA, the only child of Richard and Hildegard Young Hopkins.

They moved to Hulmeville in 1927 and Irene attended Hulmeville School earning an award in mathematics for Bucks County and the American Legion award at graduation. She went on to Langhorne-Middletown High School and again received an award for mathematics at her graduation in 1941and also served as the class treasurer.

As a teenager, she met the love of her life, Robert Eugene Anderson. They became engaged before he left to serve in the Army during the Second World War. As soon as he returned after the war, they were married and eventually bought a home in Langhorne Manor where they raised their two children: Karen Irene Matlack and Robert Eugene Anderson Jr.

After high school, Irene obtained a job with Bell Telephone Company of Pennsylvania. She started working in Philadelphia and eventually transferred to Lanshorne. She was employed there until taking time to raise her family.

She returned to work in 1960 to the Outside Plant Engineering Department. In a few years, she was promoted to management and retired in 1985. Irene has been active all these years with the “Telephone Pioneers” and with the “Talking Books Program”.

After retirement, she sold her home in Langhorne Manor and moved to Holland for 7 ½ years and eventually moved to Richboro where she lived for 20 years with her daughter and family before moving to Twining Manor.

She had been an active member at Advent Lutheran Church where she was in the choir, the bell choir and the altar guild. Until recently she was involved in the Sola Gratia Circle. In her leisure time she enjoyed needlepoint, crocheting and counted cross stitch.

She is survived by her two children, Karen Irene Anderson Matlack and her husband, Robert F. Matlack Jr, of Richboro and Robert Eugene Anderson Jr. of Cincinnati, OH. She is also survived by her five loving grandchildren; Alyssa Karen Matlack Fell and her husband, Matthew, of Jeffersonville, PA, Caitlin Elizabeth Matlack Eagles and her husband, Will, of New Britain, PA, Robert Eugene Anderson III of Hollywood, CA, Saramarie Gray Anderson of Lexington, KY and Lauren Dale Anderson of Atlanta, GA.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing on Saturday, September 13, 2014, from 9:30 AM until her Funeral Service 11:00 AM at Advent Lutheran Church, 45 Worthington Mill Road, Richboro, PA l8954.

Interment will take place at Union Cemetery, Richboro.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Advent Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 840, Richboro, PA 18954-0840.
