Gerald C. “Gerry”, Sapperstein of Doylestown died Saturday, June 2, 2012 at Doylestown Hospital. He was 85.

Born in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Israel and Rose Cowan Sapperstein.

He was the beloved husband of 35 years to Judith Sapperstein.

Gerry started working when he was a very young boy and never stopped. After World War II, when he was in the Merchant Marines, he worked in everything from printing to door to door sales. He learned the family lumber business and ultimately built both a wholesale and retail lumber business of his own.

But his most successful career was as a commercial real estate developer. His keen business sense, adding machine mind and good eye for property, established him as a partner in Penn’s Grant Corporation, which ultimately grew into his founding of Penn’s Grant Realty Corporation in 1986. Throughout his career he had many successful business ventures. Nonetheless, it wasn’t until he developed “The Farm” in Doylestown, PA; as a partner in R & G Properties, that he realized the creation of his true pride and joy.

Gerry’s talents went beyond the business realm. He was a skilled woodworker, and talented pilot who was proud to be a member of the Quiet Birdman “QB’s”. He never turned away a friend in need, was a mentor to many and was always willing to provide insight from his vast life experiences. Many of these relationships evolved into friendships that were treasured for their unwavering loyalty.

Gerry will always be remembered for his great successes, and his love for his wife and family. However, his quick wit, funny poems and songs and often inappropriate jokes will make us smile whenever we think of him.

In addition to his beloved wife he is survived by his children Gail and Ted Druzak of Doylestown, Susan and Fred Lipson of Merritt Island, FL, Mimi and Jeff Lipson of Doylestown, and Tracy Byrne of Doylestown. He is also survived by his 9 dear grandchildren; Hannah, Nicholas and Evan Byrne, Daniel and Jacob Lipson, Julie Druzak, Jamie Morris, and Shawn and Jillian Lipson; as well as his 3 great grandchildren Olivia Evleth, Taylor Dickert, and Dahlia Sedgwick.

Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate his life on Sunday, June 10, 2012 at 11:00am at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home 241E. Butler Ave. (Rt. 202 & Sandy Ridge Rd.) New Britain. His interment was held privately for the family.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to your favorite charity.
