Taylor Lonsdale
Taylor Lonsdale died peacefully on July 29, 2012, in the tender care of Clare Bridge of Dublin, after a long journey through Alzheimer’s disease. He was 72 years old.
He was the beloved husband for 48 years of Nancy S. Lonsdale.
Born in New York City, he was the son of the late Whittaker and Virginia Taylor Lonsdale and brother of the late Whittaker Lonsdale Jr.
He graduated from Williams College in Massachusetts in 1962 and went to Pensacola, Florida for Naval Officer Candidate School and Flight Training. He was commissioned in November 1962 and after completing flight training he reported to his first squadron in 1964. He married Nancy Durland Shaw in August 1964. For 23 years Taylor flew carrier-based anti-submarine warfare aircraft from Rhode Island, Florida, Maryland, Hawaii and Pennsylvania. So he also leaves behind many treasured comrades. He retired from the Navy in 1984 and settled in Doylestown. For ten years he worked for Lockheed Martin and in consulting capacities to improve the Navy’s anti-submarine warfare tactics.
In retirement Taylor pursued his love of flying in small planes and raised sheep on small farm in Doylestown. His other passion, which eventually replaced the others, was sailing and he was blessed to sail with friends and family in many places.
Always conscious of his blessings, Taylor worked to give back as a volunteer with Interfaith Housing and Habitat for Humanity and was active at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church. He was always willing to lend his skills and energy to anyone in need.
In addition to his beloved wife he is survived by his children and their partners Taylor Lonsdale and Jennifer Brassard and Whitney Lonsdale and Jed Weingarten all of Bozeman Montana, his sisters, Susan Clarke and her husband John and Donna Beeman and her husband David. He also survived by his three dear grandchildren, Zane and Roam Lonsdale and Kaia Weingarten, a niece Jesse Barry and a nephew Russell McRee and their families.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Service on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at 10:00 am at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, 1634 Hilltown Pike at Route 152, Hilltown, PA 18927, where his family will receive friends following the service.
His interment with Military Honors will take place at 1:00pm in the Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Taylor’s name may be made to the Doylestown Hospital Hospice 595 West States Street, Doylestown, PA 18901 or the Alzheimer’s Association Delaware Valley Chapter, 399 Market Street, Suite 102, Philadelphia, PA 19106.
