Rudolph J. Kalan, Jr. of Bensalem died peacefully at his home on Monday, August 27, 2012. He was 68.
Born in Detroit, Michigan, he was the beloved husband of Joan Becker Kalan for the past 22 years, son of the late Rudolph J. Kalan, Sr. and Nancy R. Davis Kalan, and brother of the late Elaine Kalan.
Rudy (Chuck) was a graduate of Neshaminy High School, class of 1963 and Trenton University, class of 1977 with a degree in Criminal Justice. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army having served as a sergeant in the Vietnam War. Rudy started his law enforcement career in 1970 as a patrol officer for the Northampton Township Police Department. In 1975, he was elevated to juvenile officer and made a detective in 1978. He continued his career with Northampton Township Police Department until his retirement in 1996. After he retired, he became the disciplinary administrator at his alma mater, Neshaminy High School, a position he held for 10 years. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Police, Bucks County Lodge #53 and the Northampton Township Police Benevolent Association.
Rudy was a man’s man. His towering presence, quick wit and generous smile allowed him to befriend many. He loved golf, fishing, playing cards and a cheap cigar. He was never at a loss for a good story or a dirty joke.
In addition to his wife Joan, he is survived by his children; Tracee-Jo Kalan and Dean Huffman, Trever J. Kalan and his wife Menden, Trista Goldberg and her husband Daniel, his step daughters, Kim Buchinsky and husband Rick, Jill Zimmerman and Rich Erb. He is also survived by his 2 grandchildren, Samantha and Evan.
Rudy’s family would like to invite family and friends to a Celebration of his Life on Saturday, September 8th at Middletown Country Club, 420 North Bellevue Avenue, Langhorne, PA, 19047, from 6:00PM to 10:00PM. Memories will be shared beginning at 8:00PM.
In lieu of flowers, his family would like contributions in Rudy’s memory made to the Neshaminy High School Hall of Fame, 555 Orchard Avenue, Langhorne, PA, 19047.
