James T. Murphy, Jr. of Holland passed away peacefully on Monday September 3, 2012 surrounded at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was 80.

Born in Philadelphia, he was the beloved husband of 57 years to Joan M. Murphy and devoted son of the late James T. Murphy Sr. and Ann Murphy. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Diane M. Galasso.

Jim was a resident of Holland for the past 35 years. He was a graduate of LaSalle High School, class of 1949 and a graduate of LaSalle University. Jim was a proud veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean War. He worked for the federal government for over 35 years having worked at the Frankford Arsenal, Fort Monmouth, and NADC. He also worked for Liberty Bell Racetrack and Philadelphia Park. He enjoyed horse racing and was an avid Phillies and Eagles fan. He was a loving father who enjoyed spending time with his family. His greatest joy in life was having 12 children.

In addition to his beloved wife Joan, he is survived by his devoted children; James Murphy and his wife Beth, Joan O’Neill and her husband Rob, Kathy Hempel, Frank Murphy, Ann Marie Murphy, Tom Murphy and his wife Kim, Mary Kay Roman and her husband Bob, Michael Murphy and his wife Candace, Coleen Murphy, Denise Pickard and her husband Dr. John Pickard, Cyndi Lanzidelle and her husband Tom and his son-in-law Michael Galasso. He is also survived by 21 Grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter.

Relatives and friends ate invited to attend his viewing on Thursday, September 6, 2012 from 9:30 AM until his funeral mass 11:15 AM at St. Bede the Venerable Church 1071 Holland Rd. Holland.

Interment will follow at 1:00 PM at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown.

In lieu of flowers contributions in his memory may be made to Thomas Jefferson University, c/o The Jefferson Foundation in memory of James T. Murphy, Jr., 925 Chestnut St., Suite 100, Philadelphia, PA 19107.
