Robert W. Buggeln, of New Britain Township, passed away on Saturday, September 22, 2012. He was 87.
He was the devoted husband of the late Marion (Frances MacCrea) Buggeln, formerly of Chatham, NJ, to whom he been happily married for 58 years.
Bob was born in Brooklyn, New York, on November 4, 1924, the son of the late John R. and Alva E. (O’Brien) Buggeln.
During World War II, Bob served with the 107th Regimental Combat Team in North Africa.
Bob graduated from Lafayette College in 1945, with a B.S. in Chemistry. Bob also graduated from Rutgers University, where he received a B.S. in Pharmacy and an M.B.A. in Marketing. Bob did doctoral work at Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute and New York University.
During more than 30 years in the corporate world, Bob worked for advertising agencies and pharmaceutical manufacturing companies, including American Cyanamid, Pfizer Laboratories, Merck & Co. and William H. Rorer. At Rorer, he was the Vice-President of Marketing. After retiring from the private sector, Bob worked for Delaware Valley College and served as Executive Assistant to the President.
Bob was a life member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, a Life Fellow with the International Oceanographic Foundation and the American Marketing Association. Bob was also a member of RHO CHI, DLETA KAPPA EPSILON and DELTA SIGMA THETA. Bob was an active member of the Kiwanis of Doylestown and the Curmudgeons of Doylestown.
Bob will be greatly missed by all his close friends and by people who only knew him for a brief time. Bob was truly a “man for all seasons” with a great love of films and books. Bob’s willingness to share his knowledge and humor with everyone with whom he came in contact made him a truly special person.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the joint Memorial Service for both Bob and his late wife, Marion, on Monday, October 22, 2012 at 1:30pm from the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 241 East Butler Avenue (at Sandy Ridge Rd.) New Britain. Interment will be private.
