Bernard M. Howard of Furlong passed away at the age of 76 on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at Doylestown Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Bernard was the beloved husband of Carol McKeown Howard for 52 years.

Born and raised in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Bernard and Dorothy Binder Howard and the brother of the late John Howard. Bernie was a proud graduate of Roman Catholic High School, Class of 1955 and served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Doylestown. He enjoyed playing pinochle, poker, and golf and was an avid Phillies fan. Bernie was a true family man always involved in his children’s and grandchildren’s activities, from coaching soccer to attending cheerleading competitions and ice hockey games. He will be truly missed by his family and by all who have had the pleasure of knowing him.

In addition to his wife Carol, Bernie is survived by his children and their spouses: Steven and Susan Howard of Boston, MA, Karen and Douglas Gaida of Warwick and Mark and Beth Howard of Hilltown. He is also survived by his sister, Dottie Leshak and her husband Roman of Chalfont and his four cherished grandchildren: Michael, Matthew, Brittany and Kyle.

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Tuesday, September 30 2014 from 9:30am until his Mass of Christian Burial 10:30am at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 235 East State Street, Doylestown, PA 18901. His interment will follow at St. John Neumann Cemetery in Chalfont.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Roman Catholic High School, 301 N. Broad St., Philadelphia, PA 19107 or The Cancer Institute at Doylestown Hospital, 595 West State Street, Doylestown, PA 18901.
