Sarah "Teri" O'Brien, of Doylestown, PA passed peacefully on Thursday, December 6, 2012, at her home surrounded by her family. She was 79.
She was the beloved wife of the late John F. “Bud” O'Brien.
Born in Holyoke, MA, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Sarah Murphy Goonan and sister the late John and Nora Goonan.
Teri grew up in Chicopee MA. She attended Our Lady of the Elms College on a full academic scholarship and graduated in three years. After graduation, Teri began her teaching career, which continued throughout her life.
Active in church and volunteer organizations, Teri met her Bud at a USO dance. They married in 1957. In the late 1960s they worked within the Civil Rights movement and for the rights of migrant workers in the greater Chicago area.
In 1970 they moved their family of seven to Doylestown, PA.
In Doylestown, Teri worked as the Director of Religious Education for Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church and Saint John the Baptist Church. She also worked with Bud in his O’Brien Contractors office.
Together with Bud, Teri was very active in the Deaconate Program in the Trenton, NJ Diocese.
Teri loved her family and was proud of them all. Her final words to them were, “Love each other and take care of each other.”
She is survived by her children; Theresa O'Brien of Montclair, NJ, Sean and Claudia O'Brien of Solon, OH, Christopher and Sheri O'Brien of New Britain, Mary O'Brien and her fiancé Jim Solomon of Doylestown, and Peter O'Brien of Doylestown, her brother Michael Goonan and his wife Ann, her sister, Sr. Mary of Fatima, SSJ all of Massachusetts and sister-in-law Mary Ann Goonan of Massachusetts. She is also survived by her 9 grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing Friday, December 14, 2012, from 6:00 — 8:00pm at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 241 East Butler Ave. (at Sandy Ridge Rd.) New Britain, PA 18901 and Saturday, December 15, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 4040 Durham Rd., Ottsville, PA 18942, from 10:30 am until her Funeral Mass at 11:30am. Her interment will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Stephen's Fund - Deaconate Office, PO Box 5147, Trenton, NJ 08638-0147.
