William D. Aitken of Churchville, PA died peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at his residence. He was 59.
He was the beloved husband of Kathleen A. Hollister Aitken for 36 years.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late John F. and Mary H. Kinslow Aitken and brother of the late Gregory Aitken and Margaret Mary Aitken.
William was with the Philadelphia Police Department for 30 Years and retired as a Lieutenant and as an instructor at the Police Academy. Since his retirement from public service, William has enjoyed being an educator. He has taught History at South Philadelphia High School and most recently at Frankford High School. He was also and Adjunct Professor who taught Criminal Justice courses and Pennsylvania Crimes Codes at; Chestnut Hill College, Montgomery County Community College, Holy Family University, and Gwynedd-Mercy College. In his leisure, William enjoyed spending time with his family at Bar Harbor, ME and creating memories that will last forever. He will be sorely missed by everyone who has come to know and love him.
In addition to his beloved wife, William is survived by his 4 children; William D. Aitken and his wife Kathleen of Amesbury, MA, Thomas B. Aitken of Alexandria, VA, Elizabeth J. Aitken and Robert H. Aitken both of Churchville. He is also survived by his 2 brothers John and Lawrence Aitken, his 4 sisters Rosemary, Cecilia, Regina, and Mildred Aitken, his 2 grandsons Benjamin and Andrew, his brother-in-laws William, Michael, David, Raymond, and Paul Hollister, and his sister-in-laws Denise Kelly, Mariellen Gallagher, and Nancy Krecko.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Monday evening, December 17th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 800 Newtown-Richboro Road (at Holland Road), Richboro, PA 18954 and to his Funeral Mass, Tuesday December 18th at 10:00 AM at St. Bede the Venerable Church, 1071 Holland Road, Holland, PA 18966.
Interment will follow at St. John Neumann Cemetery, Chalfont, PA.
In lieu of flowers, Bill’s wish was for everyone to perform a random act of kindness in his memory.
