Helen Fried Starrs of Brant Beach, New Jersey died peacefully on Wednesday, January 23, 2013, at her son’s home in Newtown, PA. She was 93.
The cherished wife of the late Joseph L. Starrs, Helen was pre-deceased by her parents, Walter and Lucille Neary Fried and her sisters, Florence Jack and Sheila Fried.
Helen was born in Belleville, New Jersey. She was a life long resident of Newark, New Jersey prior to retiring to the home she shared with Joe in Brant Beach.
A graduate of the New Jersey State Teachers College at Newark (now Kean University), Helen taught first grade at Montgomery School #2 in Belleville, New Jersey for 32 years. She was a member of the American Association of University Women, a lifetime member of the National and New Jersey Education Associations and a long time subscriber to the Surflight Community Theater.
Helen enjoyed her time on Long Beach Island, reading, caring for her home and visiting with friends. She was a communicant at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Brant Beach. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Helen is survived by her beloved son, Eugene W. Jack and his wife, Mary Margaret, of Newtown, her dear nieces and nephews and the beautiful grandchildren and great grandchildren that she acquired late in life.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewings on Sunday, January 27, 2013, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Joseph A. Fluehr Funeral Home, 800 Newtown-Richboro Road, (at Holland Road) Richboro, PA 18954 and Monday, January 28, 2013 at the Church of St. Andrew, 81 Swamp Road, Newtown, PA 18940 from 9:30 AM until her Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM.
Interment will follow at East Ridgelawn Cemetery in Clifton, NJ at 2 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Preschool Playground Fund, St. Francis of Assisi Parish, 4700 Long Beach Island Blvd., Brant Beach, NJ 08008, Attention: Katie O’Pauski.
