Denise Mariakis, of Langhorne, PA died peacefully on Wednesday, February 6, 2013, at her home with her family by her side. She was 60.
She was the beloved wife of 40 years to Michael Mariakis.
Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Robert O. and Bernice Konstanty Steinke Hebson.
Denise grew up in Philadelphia and was a 1970 graduate of Little Flower High School for Girls. She then went on to study nursing at Bucks County Community and Holy Family College where she received her degree as a registered nurse. She used her skills as a nurse in the US Army Reserve Nurse Corps where she obtained the rank of First Lieutenant. Denise also worked throughout the Philadelphia and Bucks County area, mostly focusing in pediatric care. She loved music, especially the oldies, reading the Bible, art, history, photography, travel, politics and anything French. She also acquired a love of wine while they lived abroad in Geneva, Switzerland for 3 years.
In addition to her husband, Denise is survived by her 3 sons, George M. Mariakis and his wife Mary Ellen Barry of Worcester, PA; John R. Mariakis and Nicholas E. Mariakis both of Langhorne, PA; her 3 brothers: Richard Steinke of Columbia Crossing, PA; Ronald Steinke of Croydon, PA and Roger Steinke of Bristol, PA; her 3 sisters, Karen Blake, Dawn Seebach, and Suzanne McCollum all of Bristol, PA; her dearest friend Ellen Norrison of Bronx, NY.
Her family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, February 12, 2013, from 9:30am until her Funeral Service 11:00 am at the Bible Fellowship Church, 725 Oxford Valley Road, Yardley, PA 19067. Her interment with Military Honors will occur at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Little Flower Catholic High School for Girls, 1000 West Lycoming Street, Philadelphia, PA 19140.
