Mary Jane Furman, a gracious and kind lady, peacefully passed away on February 19, 2013 at the Twining Village Healthcare Center in Holland, PA.
Born in Orange, NJ, the loving daughter of Ethel and Earl de Nourie, she was also pre-deceased by her adored husband of 56 years, Millard (Andy) Furman. She met her future husband while on a Bermuda vacation with her “second parents,” her aunt and uncle, Hazel and Harry Sautter. It turned out that Mary Jane and Andy lived only five miles apart in NJ.
Love for animals inspired Mary Jane to help found the first SPCA in Barry County MI, while living there in the late ‘50’s, 60’s, and early ‘70’s. At one point she had her own local radio show offering advice about pets.
Blessed with a beautiful voice, Mary Jane sang in her church choir, and also dabbled in art, painting portraits of many family members.
But Mary Jane’s greatest love was for her family. She was a wonderful fun-filled mother to her daughter Gail Hawraney and her husband Al of Newtown. She also cherished her granddaughter Lisa Eller and her husband Lars of West Chester, and her grandson Christopher Hawraney and his long-time companion Debbie Wiggs, of Bensalem. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Bryce, Sydney, and Casey Eller.
Her family will receive condolences on Saturday, February 23, 2013, from 11:30 AM until her Funeral Service at 12:00 PM at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 800 Newtown-Richboro Road (at Holland Road), Richboro, PA 18954.
Friends are invited to join the family for lunch following the service at The Yardley Inn, 82 Afton Avenue, Yardley, PA 19067.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Bucks County SPCA, P.O. Box 277, 1665 Street Rd., Lahaska, PA 18931.
