John R. Stranford of Bayville, NJ died peacefully on Wednesday May 8, 2013 at his home.
Born in Philadelphia, he was the beloved husband of Irmtraud “Trudy” Metzger Stranford and the late Beverly A. Lang Stranford, and son of the late John B. and Ruth M. Troller Stranford.
Born in Philadelphia, he grew up throughout the Northeast Philadelphia; he went to Lincoln High School and received his Associate degree from Temple University. Jack as he was known to all followed in his father’s footsteps and went into the banking industry, starting out with Girard Bank. He eventually joined Third Federal Bank where he spent more than 36 years retiring in 2003. Jack started in a lower level management position and worked thru the ranks to become the President and Chief Executive Officer. Third Federal under his leadership rose from a small regional banking organization serving Northeast Philadelphia. Today, due to his forward thinking it is a large publicly traded banking organization serving Southeastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey and till his passing was a member of the Board of Directors of the bank. Jack was a member of many organizations as well as a member of the Federal Reserve Bank Advisory Council.
In the late 1980’s, Jack achieved a dream that he had and became a licensed private pilot, taking many family and friends on plane trips throughout the tri-state area. Jack and his wife Trudy moved to Bayville, NJ when he retired, where he spent time with family, especially his grandchildren on his boat the “Lamp Lighter”.
In addition to his beloved wife Trudy, he is survived by his son and daughter; John H. Stranford, Sharon A. Stranford and her partner Janice Hudgings, his 3 sisters; Ruth Keller, Dorothy Klink and Joan Graefe and his step sons; Michael Brown and his wife Lori and Stephen Brown and his wife Theresa, 5 grandchildren; Emily, Alex, Elena, Ethan, Elena and Nevaeh and 2 step grandsons; Michael and Stephen Brown.
