Samuel D. Shaffer, Richboro and most recently of Dublin, died on Friday, May 24, 2013, at Doylestown Hospital, Doylestown. He was 75.
Born in Williamsport, PA. Mr. Shaffer the beloved husband of 51 years to Donna L. Stoviak Shaffer and son of the late Carlton W. and Margaret Dresher Shaffer.
Sam was a resident of Richboro for the past 44 years. He was a graduate of Williamsport High School; Sam received a Full Football scholarship to Virginia Technical University, graduating with his degree in Ceramic Engineering in 1960. Sam was also a member of the United States Army Reserve, for over 20 years retiring as a Major. His professional career, as a Chemical Engineer was spent predominately with the Rohm and Haas Company at the Bristol Plant.
Sam gave his time and talent to the youth of his community, he was a coach with the Council Rock Little League and the Northampton A A., he was also a Little League Umpire, and a assistant Boy Scout leader. Sam was the co-founder of SAGE, (Senior Adults for Greater Education) an organization that provided support for teachers. In his free time he and his beloved wife Donna enjoyed Ballroom Dancing.
He will be sadly missed by all that came to know and love him, for his gracious smile and firm handshake.
In addition to his beloved wife Donna, he is survived by his devoted sons; W. Kent Shaffer and his wife Eilene and Kevin M. Shaffer and his wife Jessie, one sister Barbara Ann Hayes. He is also survived by 3 grandchildren: Karla, Hunter and Jonathan
Sam’s family will receive condolences on Friday May 31, 2013 from 9:00 am until his Funeral Mass 10:00 am at St. Bede the Venerable Church, 1071 Holland Rd. Holland, PA. 18966. Interment Sunset Memorial Park, Feasterville.
In lieu of flowers contributions in his memory may be made to St. Bede’s Capital Campaign 1071 Holland Rd. Holland, PA 18966 or American Heart Assoc. 5455 N. High St. Columbus OH 43214.
