Sylvia “Suzy” Kahn of Chalfont passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at Abington Health Lansdale Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

She was the beloved wife of the late George Kahn.

Born in Philadelphia, Sylvia Susan Lane was the daughter of the late Isadore and Anna Lane and sister of the late Carl Lane.

She graduated from West Philadelphia High School. Suzy owned and operated Suzy’s Lounge for over 40 years. A true entrepreneur and always seeking a new venture, Suzy also owned several other businesses during her lifetime, including Neshaminy (Warrington) Lumber in Warrington, PA; the Maples Bar and Grill in Horsham, PA; two hotels in trendy South Beach, Florida; and a Motel in Deerfield Beach, Florida.

In addition to being a successful businesswoman, Suzy enjoyed a professional singing career. As a high school senior, she won a singing contest sponsored by WDAS Radio in Philadelphia, awarding her with her own summer radio show, “The Melody Matinee, featuring Sue Lane”. Suzy later received a scholarship to the prestigious Settlement Music School in Philadelphia, where she studied opera and piano. She then had the opportunity to attend the world renowned Curtis Institute. She went on to perform in some of the most exclusive hotels and night clubs in Miami Beach, Florida.

Suzy loved to entertain friends and family. People admired her talent and enjoyed her beautiful voice, often requesting her to perform at their celebrations.

Suzy’s passion for music combined with her dynamic personality inspired what would be her most gratifying career; teaching piano and voice to children of all ages. She loved helping young people realize their dreams and potential.

Suzy gave of herself without hesitation. She was a leader, an innovator, a truly liberated woman, and a shining example of living life on your own terms. Her legacy will live on.

Suzy is survived by her devoted children and their spouses: Barry Kahn of Pittsgrove, NJ; Charlotte Houser (Joel) of Chalfont; Glenn Kahn (Shelly) of Lehighton, PA; Laurie Tugberk (Faik) of Bethesda, MD; Elice Moll (Buddy) of Quakertown; and Michael Kahn (Christine) of Dublin, OH. She is also survived by her brother Amor Lane of Rockville, MD, as well many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Suzy’s family will receive friends at 10am on Friday, June 28, 2013 immediately followed by her memorial service at 11am in the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 241 E. Butler Avenue, (at Sandy Ridge Road), New Britain, PA 18901. Interment will take place at Whitemarsh Memorial Park, Prospectville, PA.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the American Lung Association, 527 Plymouth Road, Suite 403, Plymouth Meeting, PA 19462.
