Leon D. Whitney of Newtown and formerly of Warminster, died peacefully on Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was 85.

He was the beloved husband of 61 years to Kathleen R. Walsh Whitney

Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Leon R. and Viola Reis Whitney.

Mr. Whitney was a proud veteran of the Army having served during World War II. Leon was an automotive enthusiast who enjoyed working for Hurst Performance Inc. in Warminster for many years. He was a member of the Douglas A. Post / Harry C. Wilson II Memorial Post 6493 VFW in Warminster, the American Legion Morell Smith Post 440 in Newtown, and a 4th degree Knight of Columbus with the Raymond V. Hennessy Council 6145 in Newtown. Leon was an avid and supportive fan of the Philadelphia sports team, but most of all he was always a supportive and loving father and grandfather who cherished the time and memories he helped to create with his family.

In addition to his loving wife Kathleen, Leon is survived by his loving children; Barbara L. Vesey and her husband Edward of Chalfont, Michael K. Whitney and his wife Linda of Upper Southampton, Donna L. Bancroft and her husband Jeffrey of Warwick, Lee D. Whitney of Newtown, and Christopher D. Whitney of Perkasie. He is also survived by his 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Tuesday, July 16, 2013, from 10:30 AM until his Funeral Mass 11:30AM at the Church of St. Andrew, 81 Swamp Rd. Newtown, PA 18940.

Interment will follow in Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown, PA.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Church of St. Andrew at the address above.
