Joseph A. Murphy Jr. of Longboat Key, FL and formerly of New Hope, PA died peacefully on Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at Chandler Hall Hospice, Newtown. He was 69.

He was the beloved husband of Martha J. Wise Murphy for 44 years.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Joseph A. and Katherine Drachowski Murphy.

Mr. Murphy has been a resident of Longboat Key, FL for the past 5 years and was a former resident of New Hope for 22 years.

He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps having served during the Vietnam War. Before retiring in 1994, he was President and Chief Executive Officer of Hosiery Corporation of America, located in Bensalem, PA, where he worked for 15 years. Mr. Murphy was a life member of The Pennsylvania Society, a member of the American Society of Arms Collectors, the American Association of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, the Texas Gun Collectors Association, the Colt Collectors Association, the Armor and Arms Club, the Ohio Gun Collectors Association, the Dallas Arms Collectors Association and Longboat Key Club. He was a benefactor of the James A. Michener Art Museum, a benefactor and life member of the National Rifle Association, a committee member of the National Rifle Association’s Gun Collectors Committee, and benefactor and member of the Former Texas Rangers Foundation.

In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his three children, Joseph P. Murphy and his wife, Elina, of Pittsburgh, PA, Katherine N. Riggs and her husband, Stephen, of Crownsville, MD and William T. Murphy of Mission Viejo, CA. He is also survived by his five loving grandchildren, Hudson, Rafferty and Tilghman Riggs and Joseph and James Murphy.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Friday evening, July 26, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 241 East Butler Avenue (at Sandy Ridge Road), New Britain, PA 18901 and on Saturday, July 27, 2013, at St. Martin of Tours Church, 1 Riverstone Circle (West Bridge Street at Riverstone Circle), New Hope, PA 18938 from 10:00 AM until his Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM.

Private interment will take place at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown, PA.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1626 Locust Street, Philadelphia, PA
