Russell M. Weimar of Pennswood Village in Newtown, PA, died peacefully on Monday August 5, 2013. He was 82.
He was the beloved husband of the late Jane Radcliff Weimar and father of Stephen Andrew Weimar of Rutledge, PA, and Jonathan Radcliff Weimar of Lansdale, PA, as well as Elizabeth Ann Weimar (deceased).
Born in Philadelphia, PA, in 1931, he was the son of the late Russell Conwell and Margaret Funk Weimar.
Russ began his career as an educator at Germantown Friends but it was at the George School in Newtown, beginning in 1956, where he left a powerful legacy as a math teacher and coach of soccer, wrestling, and track. He was named assistant athletic director in 1961 and dean of boys in 1965, and he became registrar in 1967 after he taught himself to program computers in order to implement a modular class schedule. Russ also was a member of the team that ran the George School Summer Day Camp during the 1960’s. Russ finished his career working in the Advancement Office helping engage and reconnect alumni and friends, retiring in 2005 after forty-nine years and countless accomplishments. When Russ wasn’t mentoring the students that were in his care, he enjoyed fishing, gardening, and time with his family. He was a playful, hard working, and deeply caring husband, father, grandfather, and brother.
Russ is also survived by his sisters Lilian Weimar Walters and Peg Lambert, their husbands Ralph and Paul, his daughters-in-law Ann Renninger and Carol Zecca Weimar, and his grandchildren Zachary Renninger Weimar, Joshua Jonathan Weimar, and Kristen Michelle Weimar.
Relatives and friends are invited to his memorial service 4:00PM on Friday, August 9, in the George School Meetinghouse, 1690 Newtown-Langhorne Rd. Newtown, PA 18940.
Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the George School at the aforementioned address.
