Edward W. Long of Levittown died August 6 at his home. He was 81.

Ed was raised in Richboro, the fourth child of Earl and Florence Long. He graduated from Council Rock High School in 1949 and from Taylor School of Business in 1951. He was employed as an administrator for over 40 years at the Philadelphia headquarters of the Pennsylvania Railroad, which became Conrail in 1976. He married Carolyn Savidge of Newtown in 1951 and they raised their family in Levittown. Ed resided in the Levittown house from its construction in 1956 to his death.

In his spare time, Ed played sports throughout his life and received several commendations and trophies. He coached Little League baseball in his younger days, and was a team coach and commissioner of his senior softball league in later years. He also served as secretary-treasurer of his bowling league. He enjoyed golfing with family members. All who knew Ed know that he loved sports. He also loved children, who called him "Mister Ed" and "Pop-Pop."

He is survived by his three sons, Jeff of Kutztown, Jim of Newtown, and Andy of Holland; also by Jim's former wife Sue and their three children, Jim Long of Perkasie, Michelle Gancarz of Levittown and Becky Curran of Ottsville, their spouses and their nine children, who were Ed's great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, O. B. "Bud" Long of Amarillo, Texas, and several nephews and nieces.

Ed’s family will receive friends on Monday, August 12, from 10:00AM until his memorial services 11:00AM in the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 800 Newtown-Richboro Rd. (at Holland RD), Richboro, PA 18954. Interment will be private at Union Cemetery, Richboro.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ed's name to Running Strong for American Indian Youth, 8301 Richmond Highway, Alexandria, VA 22309.
