Justin A. Kershaw Jr. of Churchville, PA died on Friday August 23, 2013 at his Residence. He was 83.

He was the beloved husband of 57 years to Nancy Dougherty Kershaw.

Born in Philadelphia, Pa. he was the son of the late Justin A. Sr. and Regina Orr Kershaw, and was the grandfather of the late Justin A. Kershaw IV.

Justin grew up in Philadelphia, and went to LaSalle High School where he graduated in 1948, was a member of the school band and also a two time High School National Champion Oarsman in 1947 and 1948 in the Varsity 8+. He then attended Temple University for an Associates degree in Electronics and during this time became a member of the Temple University Diamond Marching band.

As a dedicated American he served his country in the US Army from December 1951 and was honorably discharged in December 1954. After Military Service he continued his education at La Salle College earning a BS in Physics and then to Penn State University where he received his Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering. During this time Justin was a member of Vesper Boat Club and competed in the U.S. Olympic Rowing Trails in 1948, 1952 and 1956. He began a long career as an electronics engineer at Burroughs and than Technitrol, Inc. with whom he worked for 18 years before joining RCA which became GE. He worked with them until 1991 when he retired, however, not for long as he joined Intermetrics, Inc. and worked with them for over 5 more years before truly retiring.

His long and successful career represented only a small portion of his life’s work. First and foremost he was a devoted husband and father. He served as a Boy Scout Master in Troop #305 St. David’s Willow Grove and also Troop #5 Churchville, Pa. He lived in Churchville since 1969 and was also active in St. Vincent De Paul Church as a CCD Teacher, Lector, Usher and St. Vincent De Paul Society volunteer. He enjoyed playing the piano, golfing and rowing but most of all he cherished the time he had with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his beloved wife he is survived by his children Mary Regina Stanko and her husband Richard, of Wallingford, Carol Ann Webster and her husband William of Churchville, Justin A. Kershaw III and his wife Joan Marie of Cleveland, OH, and Terence Kershaw of Philadelphia. He is also survived by his 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
