Kristen A. McHugh of Honolulu, Hawaii, passed away on Sunday, October 19, 2014 at the Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu. She was 49 years old.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, Kristen was the beloved daughter of Lucille Nadolny McHugh and the late James A. McHugh.
Kristen was a 1982 graduate of Lansdale Catholic High School. Upon commencement, she attended Temple University, where she earned a Bachelors of Science degree in Exercise Physiology. She continued her education and graduated from Montgomery County Community College with a degree in Nursing. Her 20 year nursing career included positions in various acclaimed hospitals including the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and Kaiser Permanente.
Kristen was passionate about many things including the Philadelphia Eagles, and she never relinquished hope for a Super Bowl win. She felt most at home near the water and treasured her summers sailing with friends at the New Jersey shore. Later she moved to Hawaii to begin a new adventure. She quickly fell in love with the islands and the people, though part of her remained a true Philadelphian at heart. For more than eight years she split her time between Pennsylvania and Hawaii, eventually settling in Honolulu.
In addition to her mother Lucille, Kristen is survived by her brother Michael McHugh of New York City, sister Tracey McHugh Spina, brother-in-law Al Spina and nieces Carly and Raegan Spina of Glenmoore. Kristen will be deeply missed by her godmother and aunt, Theresa Ostrosky of Duryea, her special cousin Brian Presbie and godson Zachary Presbie of Granby, Connecticut, as well as her entire extended family.
Kristen’s family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, November 29, 2014, from 1:00pm until a Celebration of her life, 2:00 pm. at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 241 East Butler Avenue (at Sandy Ridge Rd.) New Britain, PA 18901.
For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the Queen's Medical Center, c/o Fund Development, 1301 Punchbowl Street, Honolulu, HI 96815 or online at www.queensmedicalcenter.org.
