Daphne Doward Hogstrom passed away in her Newtown home on August 25, 2013 at the age of 88. She is survived by her daughter Kim Irene Hogstrom, her sister, Diane M. Stobodzan, and her former husband, Harold R.Hogstrom. She was predeceased by her beloved son, Jon Doward Hogstrom. Daphne was the daughter of the late Cecil George Doward who served in RAF in both World Wars I and II and Irene Doward. She was born in North Hammersmith, County of London, and lived in Harrow, England; until moving with her Mother and Sister to the United States in 1940 when the blitz started. Her Dad remained in England until the end WWII. Originally settling in Bayside New York then moving to Little Neck where she lived until she married. Daphne has lived in Newtown for 47 years.

Mrs. Hogstrom was the successful and talented author Twenty Two children’s books, including “One Silver Second: A Fable for All Ages”, and hundreds of magazine items. She was a regular contributor to the “Bucks County Magazine”. She also taught writing “For Pen and Purse” at the Newtown Program Center of the Bucks County YMCA. She was an instructor for The Institute of Children’s Literature teaching writing skills to aspiring authors of children’s books. She also was a reader for the recorded books for the blind.

Daphne will always be remembered for her loving nature; her motherly concern for her family and friends; and her gentle kindness toward animals, particularly her dearly loved Bean. She was a spiritual person and an inspiration to others. When Daphne asked “How are you?” she really meant it. She often remarked “I may not have any money, but that doesn’t mean I am poor. I am one of the richest people on this earth because I have the love of my family and my friends.” She certainly did.

Daphne will truly be missed. But her twinkling blue eyes, her radiant smile, her contagious laugh, and her big loving hugs will live in our hearts forever.
