Michael D. Esmond of Richboro passed away Monday, October 14, 2013. He was 66.
Michael was the beloved husband of the late Agnes W.L. Gilmour Esmond.
Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Joseph and Anna Esmond. Michael was a former resident of the Mayfair section of Philadelphia before moving to Richboro in 1977 with his wife. He was a graduate of Father Judge High School and Temple University. Michael was the Director of Physical Therapy at St. Francis Medical Center in Trenton, NJ until his retirement in 2012. He was a courageous veteran of the United States Army serving during the Vietnam War (1966-1968) as a Combat Medic in the 1st/1st Armored Cav. He was awarded the Silver Star, 2 Bronze Stars and 2 Purple Hearts during his tour. He was truly proud of his service and his heroic actions saved countless soldiers in Vietnam. His role as a medic in Vietnam inspired him to become a Physical Therapist and he dedicated his life to helping others. His passion for helping and healing people was always evident and he was loved by all his patients. Mike enjoyed the simple things, being with his family, attending classic car shows, driving his Corvette, trips to Wildwood and Irish Weekend. Michael loved attending his children’s sporting events and was always the loudest on the sidelines cheering. His main joy during the last years of his life was his Grandchildren. He was affectionately called “Pop Pop Pie” by his Grandkids because he always brought pies for dessert when the family got together. Michael will be deeply missed by his family and by all who came to know him. He fought hard and never gave up.
Michael is survived by his three children, Michael Paul Esmond and his wife Christy of Lansdale, Kevin James Esmond and his wife Kimberly of Perkasie and Lindsay Ann Butler and her husband Bryan of Wayne, PA. Also survived by his brother Joseph Esmond (Nancy) of Fuquay Varina, NC and his three special grandchildren, Michael, Kylie and Alexandra.
Relatives and friends are invited to call from 9:00am until his Funeral Mass at 10:00am on Tuesday October 22nd in St. Bede the Venerable Church, 1071 Holland Rd., Holland, PA 18966.
Interment with full military honors will follow at Washington Crossing National Cemetery in Newtown.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675-8517.
